Boston Globe: Vote for Trump? These Republican leaders aren’t on the bandwagon

WASHINGTON — It was one thing in 2016 for top Republicans to take a stand against Donald Trump for president: He wasn’t likely to win anyway, the thinking went, and there was no ongoing conservative governing agenda that would be endangered.

The 2020 campaign is different: Opposing the sitting president of your own party means putting policy priorities at risk, in this case appointing conservative judges, sustaining business-friendly regulations, and cutting taxes — as well as incurring the volcanic wrath of Trump.

But, far sooner than they expected, growing numbers of prominent Republicans are debating how far to go in revealing that they won’t back his reelection — or might even vote for Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee. They’re feeling a fresh urgency because of Trump’s incendiary response to the protests of police brutality, atop his mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic, according to people who spoke on the condition of anonymity to disclose private discussions.

Update: George W. Bush and Mitt Romney won't support Trump in 2020, while some GOP officials consider voting for Biden (Business Insider)

WNU Editor: They despised President Trump in 2016. They despise him now. And not surprisingly they are keeping their intentions private, while whispering it to those they know who will leak it out. If they had political courage, they would making their views and intentions public. But they know that the Republican base will turn on them, and wipe out whatever future they or their family may have in politics.

"If they had political courage, they would making their views and intentions public."

They won't make their views public because they're cowards. But neither will they support Trump because they're globalist, do-nothing RINOs.

Real men of courage not cowards like the enabler Republicans all through the Senate. Real Republicans who know what the word conservative and fiscal responsibility means.

Of course they despise President Trump. They weren’t fooled into going along with this despicable man. They have true morals and values. President Trump is a fool and a con artist in every way.

Romney is a conflicted RINO backstabber in the same vein as McCain. Romney begged for Trump's endorsement during his 2018 Senate campaign. Then did what all petty political cowards do, stick a knife in the back of powerful ally when the time is convenient. His disgusting phony "prayerful" remarks leading up to his vote to convict Trump at the Senate impeachment trial. A laugh-out-loud stance form a Bain Capital private equity raider. Not to mention a failed, inept presidential campaign that bought us 4 more years of Obama.

Bush is an altogether different animal. Throughout his entire presidency he failed to defend himself, his policies or his people. Allowing himself to be relentlessly smeared by a mainstream press every bit as nasty as the current one. Believing himself to be above the frey and not sully the presidency with the ugly business of fighting back. We're still dealing with the hamstrung wars this man led us into.

If there's two political asterisks that couldn't walk in Trump's shoes on their best day - these are them.

/oh, and add in Chuck Grassley too.

Stock up on Kleenex. You're going to need lots of it after November 3rd. An alternative would be to save your last bullet so you can ... well, you know.

War criminals and wall street jackals aren't going to endorse Trump? How ever will he recover...

Jeb Bush with a 1 billion dollar war chest like Hillary lost, when he said you have to love the illegal.

We do love the illegal, when he is back in his home country, where we send foreign aid.

Jeb Bush lost the primary with his "act of love" statement

"Bush was asked if could stand by a statement he made in early 2014 in which he called illegal immigration “an act of love” and whether he still supports earned legal status."

- The Hill

Jeb Bush had a lot of support in the early 2000, but he squandered it.

Done with Bushes.

I hold Bush responsible for much of the turmoil in the world today with his starting a war against Iraq which, in my opinion, was the catalyst for the nearly 20 years of conflict still ongoing this day.
It's hard to believe that we had a growing budget surplus back then, look at us now.
And all based on an incorrect assessment of the validity of information available to him and his advisors.
For me, a veteran of a war, the highlight of absurdity was the the famous visit and declaration of "Mission accomplished" on that aircraft carrier so long ago.

How the mighty have fallen.

Everything you said about Bush is fair and correct. Especially the part “ incorrect assessment of the vitality of information available to him “. He did what he did and he was wrong. And we have lived with that for the last 20 years. And the history that he sit in motion has been brutal. That said I never thought he did what he did out of malice. Which I don’t believe about this president.

McCain had more honor than anybody writing on this page.

Sorry Blackdog but McCain was a self-serving RINO backstabber. McCain's loyalties were utterly unpredictable and generally in line with what ever foul mood he was in that day. He ran designated-loser campaign in 2008, losing in a landslide to Obama with no apparent regrets at all. He was knee deep in the phony Steele piss dossier, handing the thing off to Comey in 2016.

His compass was guided primarily by his petty hatred for Trump. Which bought us - by his vote - the prolonging of the Obama Care nightmare.

His dying demand that Trump "stay the hell away" from his funeral reflected poorly on the McCain family.

So as far as "Honor" goes, I'll take the current CIC over McCain any day.

Wrong again Russinsocal. His personal history stacks up well. Your opinion doesn’t even gel with history.

There are two John McCain's. There's the war hero in Vietnam in the Hanoi prison. And then there's the political disaster in the latter part of his life.

Nothing I said above is untrue.
