UN Warns World Faces Worst Food Crisis In 50 Years

Zero Hedge: "We Need To Act Now" - UN Warns World Faces Worst Food Crisis In 50 Years

The world has entered a critical period, as depression unfolds, a virus pandemic rages, socio-economic chaos will flourish to unmanageable levels for governments and central banks.

UN secretary-general, Antonio Guterres, warned Tuesday that the world is on the brink of the worst food crisis ever witnessed in the post-World War II era.

Guterres said the virus pandemic could push more than 50 million into instant poverty, further saying countries must act now to shore up food security or risk imminent crisis:

"Unless immediate action is taken, it is increasingly clear that there is an impending global food emergency that could have long term impacts on hundreds of millions of children and adults," he said in a video message on Tuesday. "We need to act now to avoid the worst impacts of our efforts to control the pandemic."

WNU Editor: Just learned from my sources in China that due to the pandemic early this year much their grain crop has failed this year. I have found no confirmation of this story from the media, but if true it will have a significant impact on all food products.

How could their grain crop fail? It is small farmers. Unless they were in the city working at jibs in between planting and harvesting and were trapped by lock down, I do not see them not tending their fields.

If WNU were to fly to China and make inquiries, the police would be at his door.

Hmmmm. Maybe that Aussie barley doesn't look so bad after all. How humiliating for xi, if the story is accurate.

What anon 10:29 said. I'm extremely skeptical of such a report.

Even if these are the type of farms that America might call corporate farms that are very, very large, if a government felt it needed to "shutdown" segments of its economy to halt the spread of a pandemic, it would take steps to protect its food supply so these farms would be left to operate. Also, even if they are the small types of farms that China is said to have, same thing the farm workers are going to be allowed to return to the farms for the harvest.

It should be noted that with a few exceptions American governments at the federal, state, and local levels were NOT smart in how they did the shutdowns. In contrast, Xi and his team are many, many things quite a few of them bad actually but everything in their record indicates they are NOT stupid so they would have taken steps to protect the nation's food supply.

I am always cautious with UN prediction. The only one they succeed to do are for the past.
