Air Force Global Strike Command stood up in 2009 as the successor to Strategic Air Command, which maintained around-the-clock nuclear alerts during the Cold War.

Oligarchs rule Russia. They are corrupt. They murder opposition candidates. Still Putin come across as sane and of good training. Maybe Putin and his system being what it is , is better at hiding dirt.
There was a diesel oil spill in Siberia. A tank collapsed, because the footing gave way, because the permafrost shifted. The manager of the site was arrested. No charges yet. I think it is rather unfair. The storage tank may have been built before that manager came on the scene, It may have been in operation for years. It may have been built to current standards. There may be a few hundred built to the same design on the same soil type. The photo of Putin questioning the accident was a photo op to be sure. Still Putin looked good. He is a trained lawyer and her came across ad calm and reasonable.
Like other politicians I bet he is more worried about if this spill will hurt the power structure more than the spill. but I bet he takes the steps necessary to make sure this even does not happen or less likely to happen.
I do not know if the press will cover the aftermath of this spill in the West, because they are more like gang bangers on a drive by shooting. I want to know what happens to the manager. What the engineering and management community does going forward. I would like to know how often the tank was inspected. I see the manager as culpable in the same way a captain of plane or ship is. I see the manager's higher ups as maybe culpable, because they might have cut staff. A mark I mod 1 eyeball can only detect so much.
Still I think the manager may get more justice than Derek Chauvin.
And now the point. Does Russia really want a crazy nation to have nukes?
