The Guardian: Germany by far most admired country, with US, China and Russia vying for second – global poll
Annual Gallup survey casts doubt on Mike Pompeo’s claim that the US is ‘perfectly positioned’ to lead the free world in rivalry with China
Germany is the most admired country in the world for the third year running, leaving the US in a tight battle for distant second place with China and Russia, according to a new global leadership poll.
The annual poll, conducted by Gallup, casts more doubt on US secretary of state Mike Pompeo’s claim on Friday that the US was “perfectly positioned” to lead the free world in a new ideological rivalry with the Chinese Communist Party.
The US had a 33% global approval rating for 2019, just one percentage point ahead of China and 3% ahead of Russia. Germany outshines all three by a long stretch, with a 44% rating. These were the only four countries respondents were asked about.

A middling power that is in fast decline is compared against 3 great powers and it has a 10 to 15 point advantage? Say it it ain't so Joe!
Do a design of experiments or linear regression of favorability versus country size (pop., land mass, etc). Country size is not the only variable.
So Gallup (& other demographers, pornographers and pollsters) is making the barest and basest use of statistics.
Fucking wow.
And the criteria for individual voting participants are?
The whole idea that a freaking poll-to supposedly rank the "Top rated Global Leader"--is being used to dispute Secretary Pompeo’s attempt to build an international bloc against the most dangerous nation in the world--Communist China--is shocking, and indicative of how low and unreliable the news media has become.

WHAT an ABSOLUTELY WEIRD WAY to question how Gallup chose survey participants.

Does any one know how to decompose a time series into its elements or are we all going to play stupid in the comments section.
Do you see trends and special events in the time series?
If you extrapolate out 20 to 24 years would not the series be at 61? So is Obama really that special?
The way I read the chart is that they gave Peckerhead, 44, the benefit of the doubt, but every year the disapproval increased except 1 year.

Agree completely.
Results are based on face-to-face and telephone interviews with approximately 1,000 adults, aged 15 and older, in each country or area. Between March 2019 and February 2020, residents were asked to rate U.S., German and Russian leadership in 135 countries or areas, and residents in 136 countries or areas were asked to rate the leadership of China.
So if you break down the disapprovals out of the 135,000 people. How much do hostile countries figure into it?
Why when there are 195 countries depending on how you count, Gallup has 135 countries or areas
"There are 195 countries in the world today. This total comprises 193 countries that are member states of the United Nations and 2 countries that are non-member observer states: the Holy See and the State of Palestine."
www.worldometers.info/geography/how-many-countries-are-there-in-the-world/
Do they break large countries up into areas. So would China be broken up to 3 or 4 areas? Did the Uighurs get a vote? Tibetans?
With the 57 states (as Obama would Freudian Slip / 57 nations of the OIC) how much do they skew the rankings?
So many questions. So little curiosity by people like 12:00 PM, which is probably Parrot the dim bulb.
God, I don't think I have a bucket big enough to catch all the salt from these 'patriots'.
God, I don't think you have an argument that would hold water or you would have brought it.
