CNN: US and UK accuse Russia of launching new space weapon

(CNN)The US and UK militaries on Thursday accused Russia of conducting a space-based anti-satellite weapons test earlier this month, saying that a Russian satellite released an object capable of targeting a satellite.

It's the first time the US has accused Moscow of testing such a weapon.

"U.S. Space Command has evidence that Russia conducted a non-destructive test of a space-based anti-satellite weapon," the command said in a statement, saying that on July 15, Russia "injected a new object into orbit from Cosmos 2543," a Russian satellite that has been in orbit since 2019.

The statement added that the new "object" was released in proximity to another Russian satellite, activity that the command said was "inconsistent with the system's stated mission as an inspector satellite."

This is very hypocritical of the US/UK considering their own programs.

The point is not about having a program. The point is about actually testing the weapon(s) in space.

Glad to the the PRC is paying attention to this site.

Weapons tests like these unlike o earth create navigation hazards for everyone.

The Russians can test subsystems on Earth, but really want to know 99.9% to 100% for sure they will work as a complete system. Fine and dandy, Everyone wants that.

Problem is all shrapnel or derelict hulks. Take any commercial agricultural, telecom, or scientific satellite put up by many different countries now. You can screw up a lot of satellites in short order. Of course you will deny, deny, deny.

Actually testing a complete system where other satellites are is a provocation and escalation.

Be careful what you break. Populaces are complex systems. You never know how the cookie will crumble.

Oh look Fred screwed up his courage to spew some more.

And spew is all he does. You point out that his Democrat Party has moved on and the blind, deaf and dumb parrot thinks that it hasn't.

Fred is a perfect Joe voter. He is not all there. Fred will vote for a party, the Democrat Party, that would throw him in a camp for being white and rich.

All the kids are going to school this fall in Europe.

Meanwhile Democrats are lying about science while saying they are pro-science. They want to keep kids out of school if it will hurt the economy and elect the demented nursing home resident Joe Biden.

Now parrot says the Democrats are pro-science. He knows, because he has that nifty STEM degree called English.

Poor parrot could not read a chart or a graph if his life depended on it.
