Widespread Violence Erupts In Chicago After A Night Of Protests

Daily Mail: 'We're coming for you': Mayor Lightfoot's warning to looters who ransacked Chicago in night of 'straight-up criminality' that saw 100 arrests and 13 cops injured - as racial tensions flare nationwide on sixth anniversary of Michael Brown's death

* Chicago's Magnificent Mile was hit by looters after hundreds of demonstrators clashed with police
* It's unclear what triggered the shooting but earlier in the day, an armed suspect was wounded by police
* The man had opened fire on cops and they returned; he was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive
* Crowds however gathered in protest after false information spread that the officers shot a child
* People then started organizing on Twitter and Facebook to loot downtown in a caravan of vehicles
* By the time police caught up with them, they'd started ransacking stores, snatching all that they could
* 400 cops were dispatched to the area but they faced intense violence including, in some cases, gunfire
* On Monday morning, the chaos was still ongoing as officers arrested people who were still inside stores
* Bridges were raised and tunnels closed for police to try to get a handle on the escalating tensions
* It coincided with the sixth anniversary of Michael Brown's death in Ferguson, Missouri
* Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said the looting had nothing to do with peaceful protest over police brutality
* She warned the protesters that police were already scanning HD security footage to identify and arrest looters, saying: 'We are coming for you'
* Lightfoot said the city does not need the National Guard's help; Trump is yet to comment but on Monday he urged Portland to accept federal assistance after a riot was declared

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot warned looters who ransacked the city that they are already being hunted by police who are reviewing HD security camera footage from Monday night's chaos which saw more than 100 arrests, attacks on 13 police officers and widespread unrest.

The chaos began on Sunday afternoon when police responded to Englewood where there had been complaints of a man with a gun. The suspect has not been named but was described by police on Monday as a 20-year-old man with a criminal history that includes charges of burglary, child endangerment and assault and battery.

When officers arrived at the scene, he began running and opened fire on them as they pursued him. The cops returned fire, wounding him, and arrested him. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

WNU Editor: My cousin's daughter is visiting Chicago right now. She messaged me an hour ago that Chicago's Magnificent Mile has been devastated. According to her. These Democrat city mayors, and their inability to control their cities, are giving the Presidential election to President Trump.

I live in the Chicago area and CANNOT stand this bullshit. The city has a slice of young people with no/bad jobs, no parental involvement and are themselves having kids as teenagers. Kids can't grow with a father who left before you were born and expect them to respect any authority.

Dems are banking on being able to rig the election this time around. To many of them are headed to prison cells otherwise.

Who write "dumb remark" ?

My money is on Fred. He used that line often, He never really defends it or makes a case other than occasionally to use an "et tu" defense.

I think Amp1776 is correct. Many Democrats have been getting kick backs from American foreign aid. That is going to be the big scandal this fall that the Big 4 plus MSLSD will try to ignore.

I would never buy virtually anything at Magnificent Style store. It is too rich for me. But I am not going to steal or denigrate the rich for shopping there.

I think the only thing that has been bought there is an apple product and maybe some over priced cheesecake. Pace is too expensive.

I think places like the Magnificent Mile are great. They are a voluntary way to part the rich from their money and redistribute to other people, some of them rich and many of them poor or middle class.

Mayor Lightheaded is giving De Blasio a good race as to who can ruin their city 1st. De Blasio is in the lead and I believe he will win, but Mayor Light-in-the-Loafers is a close second.

I also live in Chicago, in downtown, and many of the stores on my street were hit for the SECOND time this year. Public transit was shut down, the bridges raised, and almost all the businesses which were not looted remained closed anyway. Cops up and down the street posted outside of every breached shop...

The worst part: this city has a violence problem - especially gun violence - and here CPD seizes 10,000 guns a year from criminals and is well ahead of that curve this year... but guess what? Cops are constantly being sent to downtown. In this case it is because of looting, but every single weekend since the death of George Floyd there have been protests down here, sometimes multiple per day on a Friday or Saturday, and sometimes during the week. Just a few that I have seen myself: protestd to "Free R Kelly", protests against ICE, protests calling for a statue of Jean Baptiste Point Du Sable, protests against pedophilia - cops are diverted to this stuff all the time. CPD has had to abandon its commitment to Chicago Urban League which mentors, leads, and PAYS at risk youth to work in the community, but CPD doesn't have enough staff. They've spent well over $50 million already this year in overtime and that doesn't include millions that the city had to spend on private security during the initial weeks of unrest. CPD is back to 12 hour shifts and no vacation...and overtime overtime overtime.

All this to say, CPD is burning through its people and its cash, and having to divert away from programs that are real, positive interventions in the community so that spoilt middle class kids and yuppies can throw temper tantrums all weekend every weekend and now we can add to that AGAIN having to deal with thieves swarming en masse to steal with violence and even try and kill officers.

In good times there is a cop every intersection. With such a visible presence, black gentlemen of the Democrat persuasion will give a mixed race couple grief.

Chicago mayor Beetlejuice finally mouths the words, "Criminal Activity". But defund the police, sue the NRA and cancel the 2nd Amendment.

More votes for Trump, I would suspect.

The NRA is moving to Texas after the NY AG just screwed the pooch, because she could.
