The fencing that surrounded the Capitol complex for much of 2021 will be reinstalled next week as Congress prepares to host President Joe Biden for his first State of the Union address on March 1. 

U.S. Capitol Police are preparing for truckers protesting the mask and vaccine mandates as the 'Freedom Convoy' heads to Washington, D.C. after demonstrating in Canada for weeks and causing major blockades. 

The protesters were able to block the Ambassador Bridge border crossing between Windsor and Detroit as they expressed their distaste with COVID-19 mandates related to mask wearing and compulsory vaccinations.

NBC: Biden says 'we have to abide' by Rittenhouse verdict  

The president said he hadn't watched the trial and that, "I stand by what the jury has concluded." 

President Joe Biden told reporters Friday that "the jury system works" after he was asked about Kyle RIttenhouse being found not guilty on all charges stemming from a pair of fatal shootings in Wisconsin last year. 

Biden was asked whether he stood by his "past comments equating him to white supremacy," referring to a post by Biden on Twitter in 2020 criticizing his opponent for not condemning white supremacy that included a video that had an image of Rittenhouse. 

"I stand by what the jury has concluded," Biden said. Biden, who was returning to White House after completing his physical Friday morning, told reporters he had not watched the trial and had just learned of the verdict, but "the jury system works and we have to abide by it."

In a longer statement issued by the White House a short time later, Biden said, "While the verdict in Kenosha will leave many Americans feeling angry and concerned, myself included, we must acknowledge that the jury has spoken."

A heavy police presence - officers in riot gear, plain clothes police, law enforcement on bikes and horses - awaited the crowd. 

Also there were counterprotesters, who carried homemade signs - one read loser which was a reference to Donald Trump, its carrier said - and 'Black Lives Matter' flags.

"Stop telling me this is about Israel and Gaza," said a New Yorker who was confronted by a pro-Palestinian mob on his way to synagogue this week.

"My people are being targeted across the United States in broad daylight. This is textbook anti-Semitism, and we will continue to live in danger until the public starts to recognize it for what it is."

Police departments in New York City and other large metro areas across the U.S. are bulking up patrols and implementing new tactics to prepare for what they say could be a violent summer. 

States lifting Covid-19 restrictions and more people out in public spaces in warmer weather increase the likelihood of more shootings, as well as less-serious crimes, officials say. Many crimes, including violent ones, normally rise in summer. Gun purchases also rose during the pandemic and cities have seen an increase in guns being used in crimes. 

Shootings and homicides in big U.S. cities are up this year again after rising last year. In the last three months of 2020, homicides rose 32.2% in cities with a population of at least one million, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Quarterly Uniform Crime Report.

* The FBI searched the home of an Alaska couple who they thought had Nancy Pelosi's missing laptop. 

 * Marilyn Hueper said the FBI thought she was a woman pictured inside the Capitol building. 

 * Pelosi's laptop was stolen during the Capitol attack in January. An Alaska couple said the FBI searched their home looking for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's laptop in a case of mistaken identity. 

Pelosi's laptop was stolen during the Capitol insurrection on January 6, when Trump-supporting rioters stormed the building and ransacked lawmakers' offices. 

Marilyn Hueper told local media outlets she and her husband Paul Hueper were in DC on January 6 and attended then-President Donald Trump's rally near the White House, but did not enter the Capitol. 

In a Facebook post, Marilyn Hueper said the feds busted into her home on the morning of April 28, dragging her out of bed, handcuffing her, and separating her from her husband. She said the agents also seized their phones and laptops.

Following the fatal officer-involved shooting of 16-year-old black girl, Ma'Khia Bryant - who was about to stab another black girl in Columbus, Ohio - tensions flared high as a flood of leftist journalists and 'blue-checks' on Twitter falsely reported that Bryant was unarmed.

McClatchy News: Some US troops view Capitol riots, racial protests equally, worrying Pentagon leaders 

During military training sessions to address extremism in the ranks, some service members have challenged why the Pentagon is not treating the violence during racial injustice protests last summer as equal to the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol. 

That the two events are viewed as equivalent by some troops has caught the Pentagon’s attention in its effort to educate service members that extremist views and activity — on either side of the political spectrum — go against the oath they took when they joined the military, the top enlisted leader told reporters on Thursday. 

“This is coming from every echelon that we’re talking to,” said Ramón Colón-López, the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. “Some people may think that, ‘all right, so the events of 6 January happened. How come you’re not looking at the situation that was going on in Seattle prior to that?’”

The Pentagon's answer is that they are not the same. Black Lives protesters were peaceful, but "other people" caused the looting and violence .... 

.... “We cannot confuse a First Amendment grievance because of social injustice organization and some of the criminals that latched on to go ahead and loot, destroy and commit other crimes. There’s two clear, distinct groups right there,” Colón-López said, referring to the difference between peaceful Black Lives Matter protesters and looters who disrupted some of those events. 

The looting has been used by some television commentators to convince viewers that the protests were equivalent to the Capitol attacks and that message has left a mark on some of the younger forces, Colón-López said.

Is The Capital Hill Insurrection Narrative Crumbling?

If the threat of "armed insurrectionists" and "domestic terrorists" is as great as some claim, why do they have to keep lying and peddling crude media fictions about it? 

Twice in the last six weeks, warnings were issued about imminent, grave threats to public safety posed by the same type of right-wing extremists who rioted at the Capitol on January 6. And both times, these warnings ushered in severe security measures only to prove utterly baseless. 

First we had the hysteria over the violence we were told was likely to occur at numerous state capitols on Inauguration Day. “Law enforcement and state officials are on high alert for potentially violent protests in the lead-up to Inauguration Day, with some state capitols boarded up and others temporarily closed ahead of Wednesday's ceremony,” announced CNN. In an even scarier formulation, NPR intoned that “the FBI is warning of protests and potential violence in all 50 state capitals ahead of President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration.”

As to what is my take. I have a certain perspective on what an insurrection looks like. I was there when Russian T-80 tanks were firing on the Russian legislative building in 1993 (Russian Constitutional Crisis). So from my experience .... this "Capital Hill insurrection" was anything but an insurrection. 

But it is not only the Democrats who are still clinging to this narrative of a dangerous uprising that justifies the arrest of 300 people (of which many were in the wrong place at the wrong time), the massive surveillance of "suspects", and the need to surround the capital with fences and barbed wire backed by thousands of National Guard troops and police. I would also add the media and the never-Trumpers in the Republican party who are  continuing to push this narrative. 

Bottom line. For an insurrection that threatened to overthrow the U.S. government. The only person who got shot was an unarmed protester by a Capital Hill police officer (who has still not been named).

It revealed that, like the president, the vice president is routinely escorted by a military aide who carries a satchel containing the codes that allow him to launch a nuclear attack.

If such threats were made, that is breaking the law, and these members should be charged and arrested. Since none have been charged and arrested, that tells me that there was never any threat of violence. So why the accusations? Two Army National Guard members are being removed from the mission to secure Joe Biden’s presidential inauguration. 

A U.S. Army official and a senior U.S. intelligence official say the two National Guard members have been found to have ties to fringe right group militias. 

No plot against Biden was found.

After ransacking the U.S. Capitol and threatening the lives of members of Congress on Jan. 6, they walked down the building’s broad steps unmolested and into the mythology of right-wing extremism. 

Many wore shirts identifying them as acolytes of QAnon, riders in “the Storm” who believe the fever-dream conspiracy that they are foot soldiers in a war against Satan-worshipping pedophiles in the government’s “deep state” bureaucracy. 

There were also neo-Nazis and anti-Semites in the overwhelmingly white crowd, including a man wearing a “Camp Auschwitz” sweatshirt. Racists rallied to the Confederate flag of rebellion that some of the insurrectionists waved in the halls of Congress.

WNU Editor: For as long as I can remember there has always been fringe groups in the U.S., and groups that have caused major damage and destruction in the U.S. in the name of protest. We witnessed what Antifa and Black Lives Matter did to many American cities in 2020. But are we on the verge of a right-wing American insurgency that would surpass the mayhem that we saw in 2020? Small groups of protesters - some of them armed - gathered on Sunday at statehouses in the US, where tensions are high after the deadly riots at the Capitol in Washington.

Protests were held outside capitol buildings in Texas, Oregon, Michigan, Ohio and elsewhere. 

But many other statehouses were quiet, amid a ramping up of security across US legislatures. 

No clashes were reported. 

The FBI has warned of armed protests ahead of Wednesday's inauguration.

U.S. defense officials say they are worried about an insider attack during President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration, prompting the FBI to vet all of the 25,000 National Guard troops coming into Washington for the event. 

The massive undertaking reflects the extraordinary security concerns that have gripped Washington following the deadly January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol by pro-Trump rioters. 

It also underscores fears that some of the very people assigned to protect the city over the next several days could present a threat to the incoming president and other VIPs in attendance.
