Germany will be plunged into a new national lockdown for the Christmas period as Angela Merkel makes a desperate bid to drive down soaring Covid infection rates.
The country will be closing non-essential shops, hair salons and schools, and further limiting social contact.
Chancellor Merkel said she and the governors of Germany's 16 states agreed to step up the country's lockdown measures from December 16 to January 10 to stop the exponential rise of COVID-19 cases.

Does she have inside information that the virus will be less deadly on 1/11/2021. She does not. Either she works for China? She's a complete idiot, or someone has scared her. Personally I think she's a complete idiot. "Useful idiot" as some might say.
The virus is bad enough. The lockdowns are worse. China did NOT order these nor could they realistically expected us to be so stupid!! These lockdowns are an "unforced error" and are the best friend of Chinese leadership.

I think a good analogy, an almost 100% analogy, can be made between Merkel and Krugman.
Krugman is a PhD economist. He is a Nobel prize winner. He used his discipline to mathematically prove a narrow result.
When Merkel or Krugman use their 10,000 hours of training in their field, it is a zenlike event. It took 10,000 hours to make a master craftsman in the Middle Ages. It takes about 10,000 hours now. A master is a wondrous thing.
It has been said that Krugman shoots from the hip now. He does not use his discipline. Hos moves and his style is the same as everyone else. He is a street fighter standing in the gutter throwing haymakers. He does not use his discipline. There is no zen.
Merkel in my opinion is the same. Her energy, refugee, EU and military polices are all those of the masses or particular factions within the masses. She was stampeded into getting rid of nuclear and coal. She is a complete idiot.
Unfortunately she will not live to see the mess of her energy policies in 10 years. She'll be a decaying, flatulating, "spasmoaning" mass of corruption some mattress in some nursing home unaware that there is another blackout. The nurse at the station might not know, because the frequent brown outs, blackouts or spikes, will degrade the electronics.

We were told Trump did it wrong and Merkel did it right. So why is Germany seeing such a large spike in cases?
As strong as the German economic engine is, Merkel still has a chance to degrade it into a an average or moribund economy.
