Somalia Cuts Diplomatic Ties With Kenya

Somalia cut diplomatic relations with neighboring Kenya on Tuesday, accusing it of meddling in politics as protests and gunfire erupted in the capital Mogadishu over delayed elections.

The dispute could undermine cooperation in the fight against the Islamist group al Shabaab in Somalia, where Kenya provides 3,600 troops to an African Union peacekeeping force.

"Somalia calls back all its diplomats from Kenya and orders Kenyan diplomats to leave Somalia within seven days," Somali Information Minister Osman Dube told the state news agency.

This development worries me than Trump pulling out of Somalia.

Every year that we were or are in Somalia, it should be brought up and discussed in the SOTU speech. It should be explained why we are there and how we are going about solving things and leaving.

They had a civil war in Somalia 30 years ago, a generation ago. We are still there. We are not solving things.

A major problem is that Al Shabab does not have a Zero Hour feel.

It can't be brought up in a SOTU address. To do so would only make it clear that Somalia like most of our other involvements around the world are pointless, don't advance our interest, actually undermine our interests, and sap our strength. Most Americans now realize this and have become virulently anti war as a result yet we are to believe that Americans somehow voted in masse for the party of perpetual pointless war for POTUS.

There are vast numbers of people who simply aren't paying attention. Perhaps this explains the incongruency. Furthermore with the government's absolutely brutal response to COVID-19 many are in survival mode and probably couldn't and can't pay much attention. Nevertheless I would expect substantial "buyers remorse" to set in very quickly among those who voted for Biden. I'd expect Democrats to be punished severely by the voters in 2022 and again in 2024.

Things like Somalia are just the tip of the iceberg. Democrats are the party of perpetual war. "Trumpism" has been getting us out of these things of which Somalia is a part. Americans are virulently anti war now. I'd expect the problem with Democrats to be rectified by the American people pretty soon.
