Could The F-35 Stealth Fighter Lose To Russia's Su-57 In A One-On-One Dogfight?

One of Russia’s most prominent test pilots seems to think so.

Former Soviet test pilot Magomed Tolboyev told Russian reporters earlier this week that Russia’s new Su-57 fighter can “easily” defeat Lockheed Martin’s F-35 fifth generation fighter in a one-on-one engagement: “Su-57 will kill [a F-35] easily, should they meet one on one. The F-35 cannot maneuver, it’s simply incapable. But it does have electronic might.” Tolboyev added that the F-35’s reliance on its electronics suite makes it especially susceptible to jamming. “This is why I oppose everything electronic.”

WNU Editor: The Russian Air Force believes they have the better fighter jet .... Russian Su-57 jet to win over US F-35 in one-on-one dogfight, test pilot says (TASS).

Has the Russian flew both jets? Lol this is comical. Why does Russia spend so much on air defense if they have the top bird on the sky?

The only way to "know" would be to actually have the conflict. Given the propensity of US leadership to overestimate our capabilities while underestimating those of adversaries and potential adversaries combined with the numerous documented problems associated with the F-35, the author could be asking the wrong question!! I hope and pray this is one that we never "know."

Ok let's all say this together..... The F-35 is not built for dogfights.

No, but they have probably gathered some strong data via that traitorous NATO member, Turkey...

Exactly, its sole purpose is to never meet one-on-one.

Anon 2:57,

I agree, the right comparison is with the F-22, not the F-35. We just have to wait Russia has a "Russian" f-35.

This was encountered in Vietnam. American F4 phantoms were easily shot down by old "obsolete " Mig 17, 19 and 21's. Phantoms were built without a machine gun. Was never supposed to meet opfor in a dogfight. However the fight came anyway.

It is russia that constantly overestimates combat capability of its weaponry, pantsir s1 being a clear example of dismal failure.

Difference is you can see a phantom

F35 isn't designed for dog fights it's mostly built around stealth. SU-57 is a stealth fighter that's designed around being a dog fighter people. Almost different class of Jets people. It's like comparing a subway sandwich to the Philly cheese steak sandwich. Mmhmm, but the f22 is a good comparison.
