Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's leading infectious disease expert, appeared to claim credit for the decision to quickly develop vaccines against COVID-19 on Sunday - in comments that are sure to anger Donald Trump.
Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, made the comment in an interview with CNN for a special, diving into the details of America's pandemic response.
'When I saw what happened in New York City, almost over-running of our healthcare systems, and that's when it became very clear that the decision we made on January 10 to go all out and develop a vaccine, may have been the best decision that I've ever made with regard to intervention as the director of the institute,' Fauci said.

Unless there is a budgetary regulation that prohibits funding research for something not in a congressionally passed budget, any CDC director on down to a GS 5/7 would think about developing a vaccine.
Fauci or somebody could show or leak an email stating that they are authorizing the development of a vaccine. It is probably already in the CDC charter to develop a vaccine for any pathogen they believe will become an epidemic. There are vaccine in development or being researched by the CDC that we have not heard of, because there is no epidemic caused by those pathogens, so the research has been put on low boil. GS 1 through 13 employees have a handle on what needs to be done, but they have to wait until their supervisors give them permission.
I do not give a shit if Fauci or Trump came up with a vaccine first. What I am grateful for Trump for is that he pushed and pushed to a vaccine developed and distributed faster than any other person was saying could be done.
Trump pushed and at the end of October we learned that a drug company sat on their samples at the end of September through October ahead of the election.
All Fauci is is a glory hound, who is well past his sell by date.
I became sceptical of the good doctor early on. This has not changed and most likely will it ever.

The problem with Dr. Fauci is a person like him uses so many caveats that he can claim to always be right.
When you have a wordsmith like Fauci who caveats down to a gnat's ass, you have to pin them down by having them give odds. Then you develop a track record for their "guru" performance.

Where I live 70% of people 65 and older have been vaccinated and it is really only older people, who are dying of it and then mostly, if they have diabetes, high blood pressure or obesity.
Smokers are likely hard hit. As they get older they tend to get ling cancer, COPD or emphysema. I am really not concerned, if a person with such condition, dies from COVI in that it is not an indicator that I will die.
