Gas Shortages Spread On The U.S. East Coast On Day Five Of Colonial Pipeline Cyber Attacks

Daily Mail: Pumps run dry on day five of Colonial Pipeline cyber attack: Cars line up outside stations across the South and American Airlines is forced to add refuel stop to long haul flights as gas prices near seven-year high

 * The FBI has confirmed that DarkSide, a Russian hacking outfit made up of ransomware veterans, was responsible for the attack on Colonial Pipeline

* The pipeline, which runs from Texas to New Jersey and transports 45 percent of the East Coast's fuel supply, was hacked five days ago

* Colonial said it was working to 'substantially' resume operations by the end of this week but reports of gas shortages are already emerging along East Coast

 * Gas stations in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia had shortages

 * The pipeline also serves Atlanta's airport - the world's busiest by passengers

 * American Airlines is adding stops in two long-haul routes from Charlotte, NC

 * American Automobile Association is predicting that gas prices will only surge as a result of the shutdown after the average price jumped six cents to $2.98

 * An increase of three more cents would make the national average the most expensive since November 2014

Gas stations from Florida to Virginia have closed their pumps and a state of emergency has been declared by the governor of North Carolina after Colonial Pipeline was forced to shut off the nation's biggest fuel pipeline when it was hacked.

The FBI has confirmed that DarkSide, a Russian hacking outfit made up of ransomware veterans, was responsible for the attack on Colonial Pipeline, which runs from Texas to New Jersey and transports 45 percent of the East Coast's fuel supply.

The 5,500 pipeline shut down five days ago and services are only gradually being restored now.

Colonial, which is based in Atlanta, Georgia, has not yet said whether it has already paid or is negotiating a ransom with the hackers.

Found and killed?

They work for Putin, so they are already "found".

Assuming they do not work for Russian authorities directly, the authorities know who they are and will now assume more oversight.

I do not think publicly trying to force Putin to do something will work. It'll make Putin
look weak so he will resist. IF the Russians are forced, which is a BIG IF and I doubt that they can be, then they might throw a few token hackers to the wolves, but keep the really good ones. They ones, which they keep, will be making less and will have oversight.

It might be a Al Qaeda situation. The Taliban protected Al Qaeda and Al Qaeda swore fealty to the Taliban, but did not tell the Taliban of their extra curricular late night planning sessions.

Difference is that Russia has nukes and the Taliban did not.

Maybe the Russians consider this payback for the oil spill in Siberia in the 1980s? Of course the Russian did a lot stuff in the 80s too.

If it is payback or if Putin did know, we would have been better off installing the elected president Trump and not the imposter, President *. You do not mess with people, who are a little squirrelly.

We should hyave installe
