Ceasefire Collapses As Israel Carries Out Airstrikes In Gaza After Militants Launch Firebombs

Daily Mail: Huge explosions rock Gaza as Israeli warplanes launch airstrikes in response to Hamas firebomb balloons just three weeks after ceasefire was agreed

* Aircraft launched a new attack against Hamas armed compounds in Gaza Strip

* The military said it was a response to firebombs sent to southern Israel

* Israel said it is 'ready for all scenarios, including renewed fighting'

Israeli aircraft have launched fresh airstrikes against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, bringing an end to the brief ceasefire after the latest devastating conflict in the region.

Israel's military said the latest explosions were a response to the launching of incendiary balloons that caused fires in fields in southern Israel.

In a statement, the military said that it was 'ready for all scenarios, including renewed fighting in the face of continued terrorist acts emanating from Gaza'.

WNU Editor: These air strikes were ordered by the new government. I am also surprised that the ceasefire lasted this long. I had originally thought that it would last for only one week.

I'm surprised the ceasefire lasted as long as it did as well. These things typically last as long as it takes Israel's enemies to rearm and get sufficient rest. It apoears Israel may have been more effective initially than I thought.

It will be up to Israelis to formulate the necessary strategies necessary to win. It does appear to me that it is going to require a sustained effort and Israel will need to resist calls for ceasefire. Do not stop until the enemy is defeated. Hamas is a very formidable fighting force and has to be treated as such.

B. Poster. This is also the new government showing that they are tough.

WNU Editor,

I hope this isn't simply Israeli leaders trying to look tough. If so, I don't see this ending well for them.

The excuse for the Palestinian attacks was some sort of Israeli March. Palestinians are generally allowed to march with impunity while calling for death to Israel. Surely some type of blowback would be expected. While the Palestinians do seem to get kid glove treatment compared to others, they are human and subject to the same laws of nature. Once fire bombs start being launched it would seem Israel would need to respond in some fashion. As to whether or not the current one is the proper course, Israelis need to decide that.

Perhaps Israeli leadership wants to prove they're tough. On the other hand, the current timing of the Hamas attack may have been done to test the new Israeli government.
