Mother Jones: Facebook Doesn’t Want to Talk About Fake Users Created by the Pentagon
Social media platforms have promised to root out similar activity by “foreign” actors.
On a press call a few years ago, I asked Facebook’s head of cybersecurity policy, Nathaniel Gleicher, if the company would treat a misinformation campaign orchestrated by the US government the same as it would as one from a foreign adversary.
Facebook had organized the call to tout how it had discovered and deleted dozens of Iranian accounts, groups, and pages linked to “coordinated inauthentic behavior”—the company’s term for when people and organizations create fake accounts in an attempt to mislead and manipulate other users and the broader information landscape. The conversation came at a time when Facebook was conducting a spate of such announcements and media briefings championing its work removing phony networks tied to foreign governments.

Pentagon has been at this since at least 2007. This website has 4 or more government, foreign, or NGO trolls.
How do people know what other, real people think? Maybe that is the point. They will never know. They can only guess. Hell on Earth, but without the bombs. A concentration camp without wire.
Fun Fact. The kidnap plot against the tyrant, "It all went to her head" governor Whitmer was 13 people. Five of them were government informants. Can you say entrapment?
Without the informants there would have been eight people. With eight people maybe they would have counted and thought this ain't going to work. Maybe with 8 people not egged on as much, they would have done no more than grouse.
Here is a thought. The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle applying to people and group dynamics. The mere observation of a group changes it.
