Over 1,000 Afghan Troops Flee Taliban Into Tajikistan

AFP: Over 1,000 Afghan troops flee Taliban into Tajikistan

More than 1,000 Afghan troops fled into neighbouring Tajikistan on Monday following clashes with the Taliban, as the insurgents amassed momentum on the battlefield.

Now how much did the free world "invest" in these bums for how many years?

Plans for a counterattack? Where have I heard this before?
Why was Massod so successful when he and his followers were holding off the Russians, etc.?

Massoud was defending 100% ethnic Tajik land against raving butthead non-Tajiks in a very narrow mountainous valley. He traded space for time to bleed the enemy to death.

The British loved Massoud and supplied him. The Pakistani secret services hated him, because he was not their guy, They did not own him.

A person might say the great powers, US and USSR, failed. Pokiston (a little Obama lingo) has invested time, effort and money into Afghanistan and has had a friendly or puppet government there for 5 of the last 42 years? If Pokiston falls in the next 20 or 50 years will historians think of their Afghanistan effort a foolish waste?
