Who Would Aid Taiwan If China Invades?

A sailor aboard US Navy guided-missile destroyer USS Spruance investigates a contact during a Taiwan Strait transit, March 1, 2014. US Navy/Lt. j.g. John Horne

Business Insider: Fears of a Chinese attack on Taiwan are growing, and Taiwan isn't sure who would help if it happened

* China has been expanding its influence and taking a more aggressive posture toward Taiwan.

* That has raised concerns that Beijing will attempt to retake the island by force.

* Whether the US and other countries would help, and what help they would offer, remains in doubt.

Twenty-five years ago, two US Navy carrier strike groups were enough to deter possible Chinese military action against Taiwan after China launched missiles that landed a few dozen miles off its coast.

Now, after a massive modernization effort by China's military, known as the People's Liberation Army, or PLA, two carrier strike groups, and possibly US forces alone, may not be enough.

This is especially daunting for Taiwan, as it is unclear if it can get help from anyone else if, or when, the time comes.

In March, Adm. Philip Davidson, then head of US Indo-Pacific Command, told the Senate Armed Services Committee that China could invade Taiwan in the next six years.

A few days later, Adm. John Aquilino, Davidson's successor, declined to comment on that assessment but said that China views Taiwan "as their No. 1 priority" and that, in his opinion, "this problem is much closer to us than most think."

WNU Editor: There are only two countries that can make a difference in such a scenario. The U.S. and Japan. Unfortunately .... U.S. policy under the Biden administration has been opaque, but they are still selling arms to Taiwan. But it looks like Japan has made the decision to get more committed and involved in the defense of Taiwan .... It’s Getting More Likely The Japanese Would Fight For Taiwan (Forbes).

I don't like China one bit, but why should the USA should put our soldiers/sailors in harms way to defend Taiwan when the US does not even recognize Taiwan as a nation and the US doesn't have diplomatic relations with Taiwan? What's the justification for going to war under those circumstances? If the US wants to commit to defending Taiwan, then the US should recognize them as a separate nation and place an embassy on the island.

Because history states that it never stops at just one invasion.

Sargon of Akkad was not the strongest king of the Sumer city states. The strongest king resided in a city south of where Sargon reigned.

Sargon wanted to expand his domain. Did he attack the strongest king? No. He went north conquering city state after city state. Some of them considered small in inconsequential by themselves.

After taking numerous cites north of his capital, he wheeled east and attacked the mountain people. Completing his subjugation of these people, he now had a large and well trained army.

He march south of his capital and took on the big guy, who was not so big anymore and defeated him.

4:43 said it in as a general historical lesson in one concise sentence.

I gave a single concrete example. There are many examples. like the Ottomans or the NAZIs.

If 4:26 does not get it they are a Chinese hack, Iranian hack, obstinate, slow or liberal.

Liberalism is a mental disorder.

Not taking out an aggressor is like deferring maintenance on the foundation of a sky scraper.

I doubt anyone would come to Taiwan's help

China infected the world and stole trillions beforehand and made profits of our deaths and our leaders go along with the deflection of a food market incident lol

We are already at war, China fired at us for years economically, culturally, cyber, now biological...

If a takeover by china is attempted, it's going to be expensive in the long term for china win or lose, methinks.

Taiwan is a strategic point for America. "Just" for micro processor a take over Taiwan would be a disaster for us.
