Joan Barker, Military Times: Breaking hearts and minds: The strategy of surrender
“The US have left us behind for these kinds of humans to kill one by one.”
That was a text I received last week from my friend Mo, an Afghan interpreter currently trapped in Kabul. One does not have to be a rocket scientist, or Secretary of State for that matter, to know that he is referring to the Taliban in his message. Mo is a man with whom I worked closely in 2017 when I was teaching English to the Afghan air force on the military compound attached to Hamid Karzai International Airport.

WNU Editor: The disconnect from what I am hearing and seeing on U.S. media and from the Biden administration is the complete opposite on what I am hearing in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. The above commentary explains accurately how many people outside the U.S. view its government and leaders, and why it is going to take a long time for the U.S. to gain the trust of those that they will want help from.

I know someone who served in Afghanistan who has interpreters who are trapped there. It is truly a heart breaking situation.
Unfortunately while the Taliban slapped one cheek the corrupt and inept Afghan government slapped the other. As such, anyone perceived as working for this government or us is looked on unfavorable as well. The Taliban may be the least of their worries.
I am praying for these people that they will get out safely. Like many others who are just trying to survive I cannot hold them responsible for the actions of others in their government. Obviously the redeployment and getting the proper people out has been mismanaged.
As for "trust," these users, abusers, and grifters we've called allies for many years have never really liked us much any way. I suppose now they really won't like us. I think they'll still call on us. Somebody will still want to needlessly provoke Russia for any reason. Someone else will want a "show of force" in negotiations with China. I see no reason for them to stop calling us for these things.
We Americans have pretty much always understood that in any time of need we wwre/are going to be alone. Furthermore we could be at war with China at any time and due to economic and security necessity most of the world will ultimately line up behind China or show hostile indifference to us. This was true before the current Afghan situation and hasn't changed.
Of course they surrender. The whole administration is infected.
