U.S. Sen. Wicker Suggests US Could Nuke Russia Over Ukraine Invasion

Daily Mail: GOP Sen. Wicker suggests US could NUKE Russia over Ukraine invasion and claims 'everything is on the table'

* 'There's certain things in negotiations that if you're going to be tough that you don't take off the table,' the Mississippi Republican said

* He noted that there are already around 200 US National Guard troops on the ground in Ukraine

* 'Military action could mean we stand off with our ships in the Black Sea and we rein destruction on Russian military capability'

* 'I would not rule out American troops on the ground. You know, we don't rule out first use nuclear action, we don't think it'll happen'

* Satellite images show increasing numbers of Russian troops massing on the border of Ukraine – as many as 175,000, according to US analysts

* Biden, during a virtual sit down with Putin on Tuesday, said he threatened the Kremlin leader with 'economic consequences like none he's ever seen'

Sen. Roger Wicker, the number two Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, said Wednesday that President Biden should not 'rule out' military action in Ukraine if Russia invades, including the use of nuclear weapons.

'There's certain things in negotiations that if you're going to be tough that you don't take off the table,' the Mississippi Republican told Fox News' Neil Cavuto in an interview from the Capitol.

'And so I think the president should say that everything is on the table.' The senator noted that there are already around 200 US National Guard troops on the ground in Ukraine.

Well why not. Makes perfect sense in some world.

It makes perfect sense. Russia might try to give the West a fait accompli knowing that it is prohibitively expensive to be everywhere at once with conventional forces.

I read George Friedman's "Russia and Ukraine: War or Bluff". In the end Friedman wrote:

"My bet is this is a bluff. But I wouldn’t bet the house on it."

So Friedman gave himself a BIG out! TBF it is hard to go through all the scenarios in ten paragraphs. It was better than a PowerPoint sketching out the situation from the altitudes, which airliners cruise at.

Also, Friedman is wrong in his analysis. He wrote of Sweden invading Russia. If you look through all the Swedish Russian wars it was a lot of tit for tat and Russia did a Hell of a lot of instigating.

From my view point Ukraine is safer with crazy Donald than Alzheimers Joe.

Political leaders weigh risks. they gamble. They look at the people across the table consider the known cards in play and the temperament of the their opponents (Competitors if you are a pathological liar and use Psaki-speak). Hitler gambled 5 times before a red line was laid down. That was breaking the Versaille treaty by engaging the military build up, crossing into the Western Rhineland, the Anschluss, Sudentenland (Peace in our Time) and finally Czechoslovakia proper. He gambled a 6th time that Britain and France did not mean it and so he invaded Poland. His gamble failed but look how many times he was right.

Hitler also engaged in coalition building. People forget about Romania, Bulgaria and Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia was a German ally until there was a coup instigated by Churchill. also Hitler would have reached out or sealed the deal with Metaxas, but Mussolini and Hitler did not always let teach other know what they had planned so Mussolini screwed the pooch on that one.

Putin has China, Pakistan, North Korea, Iran, Syria and other allies. Syria might be broken, but Assad still controls the important real estate. America support of the 'rebels' would dry up in major war. Putin potentially could get Western Europe to sit out by keeping a hand on the gas spigot. North Korea might not be able to project power other than a handful of missiles, but all it really has to do is hold the attention of the South Korean troops and as many American troops as it can. It just has to be a restive army in being.

In the Pacific that would leave Japan, the Aussies and the Kiwis. I do not have much faith in Jacinda, who is a glorified, overblown socialist mayor. Maybe she could care people with that jawline? As many ships as the Aussies and Kiwis have, are we looking at ABDA Part Duh?

Putin has gotten away with shit 3 times. He took pieces of Georgia. He took Crimea. He did not take the Donbas at all. But he has denied 1/2 of it to Ukraine. Nothing happened except ineffectual sanctions on individuals, who just as rich after the sanctions as before. What are those oligarchs missing? Visiting "Escape from New York?"

It might be like Judo. You dance. you have have a sweep or a throw you want to do. You might try several times or feint several times. But it is always to and fro. You keep moving. You keep moving just like those exercises. You build up and watch. You build down and watch. You rinse and repeat until you see them let their guard down or you fatigue them.

Sure the Russian can hold exercises anywhere they want inside their country. Maybe the US ought to take page out their book and hold exercises along the Canadian or Mexican border?
