What Is The 'True' Global Covid-19 Death Toll?

The Economist: The pandemic’s true death toll

Our daily estimate of excess deaths around the world.

How many people have died because of the covid-19 pandemic? The answer depends both on the data available, and on how you define “because”. Many people who die while infected with SARS-CoV-2 are never tested for it, and do not enter the official totals. Conversely, some people whose deaths have been attributed to covid-19 had other ailments that might have ended their lives on a similar timeframe anyway. And what about people who died of preventable causes during the pandemic, because hospitals full of covid-19 patients could not treat them? If such cases count, they must be offset by deaths that did not occur but would have in normal times, such as those caused by flu or air pollution.

WNU Editor: I know in Russia they have experienced about a 750,000 "excess deaths" since the start of the pandemic. Ditto in places like India, Pakistan, etc..

Yeah and these excess deaths, if you overlay vaccination and death curves, fit very nicely

And don't forget the WHO mandates protocols that killed so many
Until the WHO is trialled for crimes against humanity, we have no WHO

In other news, the world population reaches new highs and old people still die, when they are old.

All those unvaxxed people still coming to the US and Europe. They should be the hardest hit. But no, it is the ones smothered by benevolent government concern.

In America due to the obsessions with testing using tests that tend to yield false positive results and counting people who died "with" COVID as dying "of" the disease even when the virus did not cause their deaths our reported death count of approximately 875K is obviously vastly overstated. As each country is unique, our situation won't apply everywhere.

If global deaths are understated, note I say "if" as I don't know for certain, and knowing our (American) death toll is vastly overstated we aren't doing such a bad job of containing this!!

Russia's reported death toll is approximately 320K. If the editor is correct and Russia's true death toll is understated by approximately 750K actual Russian deaths are on excess of 1M.

We are doing much better at containing this than Russia is!! Our population is significantly larger than Russia's and fewer of our people have died than Russians have died from this. I remember when Vlad bragged about his country's COVID response while criticizing America's response. In fact, we've been repeatedly raked over the proverbial coals regarding our response even our response has been among the world's best as far as halting the spread of the virus

This is actually something we should be proud of!! It's to bad our leadership class took actions early on to wildly artifically inflate both cases and deaths for short term political gain. Had they not done this they could take credit for this success even though the credit really should be acknowledged as being implemented by President Trump.
