The Guardian: Russian army failed to deliver key military goals on day one, says Ben Wallace
Russian army failed to deliver key military goals on day one, says Ben Wallace UK defence minister rebuffs pleas from Ukrainian and some Conservative MPs to implement no-fly zone over Ukraine
An estimated 450 Russian soldiers have died in the conflict in Ukraine so far and Vladimir Putin failed in his military objectives on the first day of fighting, the UK defence secretary has said.
Wallace also rebuffed pleas from Ukrainian and some Conservative politicians for the UK to implement a no-fly zone over Ukraine, arguing that introducing one would amount to declaring war on Russia.
“Our assessment as of this morning is that Russia has not taken any of its major objectives, in fact it is behind its hoped-for timetable,” Wallace told Sky News.

WNU Editor: What was Russia's objectives on Day One? The UK defense minister does not say.
All that we know about the military situation on the ground right now is that Ukraine's air force and air defenses have been significantly degraded, and all of Ukraine's border crossings with Russia have been breached.
As to my own take on where this conflict is going.
Ukraine is Europe's second largest country, and I have lived and traveled in it more than once. It is not going to be an easy conquest, and I would say it would be an almost impossible one considering its geography, population centers, and size. And forget about trying to occupy it. Russia will need hundreds of thousands of soldiers to accomplish that, a fact that every Russian and Ukrainian knows.
There is a bigger agenda at play, and I suspect that we are going to find out what that agenda is in the coming days. My gut tells me it will be a negotiated settlement, and I am not surprised to now see and hear numerous reports in Russian and Ukrainian media that this is what both sides now want.
Is this wishful thinking? I do not know.
I personally hope this war ends in the coming days, if not, than the nightmare scenario is going to unfold in Ukraine where I expect massive losses on both sides and the major cities on fire.

The Ukrainians aren’t going to give up easily. This could turn into an Afghan style insurgency. 18K automatic rifles passed out to civilians, most have some experience and can load, fire, clear a stoppage based on their conscripted service. If one in ten kills a single Russian soldier that’s a combat brigade down the drain.

Fucking leave the tiny urls at home.

I mean it wasn't a good first day for Russia in my opinion. They lost the major battle at Antonov Airfield north of Kiev and had to nix a large paradrop of VDV because of this. If they had achieved that objective and dropped thousands of airborne just outside of Kiev, the psychological impact on Ukraine would have been devastating. Instead this loss just galvanized the Ukrainians to keep fighting harder.
Not to mention that they also failed to establish complete air superiority. I don't even know what to say to that.
But they're apparently still pushing towards Kiev despite the setbacks.

We are not packing for vacation but are at work/home

Oh and you (10:52) are not funny.

Imagine if Germany in ww2 conquered Poland and then turned around and asked to negotiate. That's what Putin wants, just as Hitler thought he could do.
Putin wants a surrender. There's no negotiations. What do you think 'demilitarise' actually means, if not surrender.
Sorry WNU, only one side wants that. Russia.
