GoFundMe officially cancelled the Freedom Convoy fundraiser on Friday and plans to distribute the remaining $9million of donated funds to 'credible and established charities'.
The crowdfunding platform claimed the fundraiser - which raised $10million Canadian dollars ($8 million USD) in support truckers protesting against COVID-19 vaccine mandates - violated its terms of service 'which prohibits the promotion of violence and harassment'.
'GoFundMe supports peaceful protests and we believe that was the intention of the Freedom Convoy 2022 fundraiser when it was first created,' the company said in a statement released Friday evening.

WNU Editor: I know many people who attended the protest in Ottawa last weekend. I also have a few friends who live in Ottawa including one who lives in a condo just two blocks away from the protests. None of them have had any of the negative experiences that the media and government officials are saying have taken place.
There are also hours and hours of live video from people who have documented the protests in Ottawa. None of them show violence or harassment. Go here for the videos (link here).
So what is happening?
Canadian government leaders are panicking, and they have threatened GoFundMe that they will be facing parliamentary hearings if they do not shut down this fund raising effort .... MPs vote to call GoFundMe to testify at Commons committee on convoy protest (CBC)
Not surprising. GoFundMe has complied.
But here is the kicker. GoFundMe will now distribute the remaining funds to 'credible and established charities'. I like to know who are these 'credible and established charities'?

So FoFundMe simply stole the $10M.
There has got to be a secure alternative to any large mainstream tech service. Be it communication, commerce, banking or transportation.
And these companies need to be immune from totalitarian persecution schemes from corrupt foreign or domestic governments.
If there were any backbone in the Repub ranks to push back, this harassment and theft of public monies would suddenly end.
Your first sentence nails it. Perhaps they don't want to be associated with the truckers. That's their right. Cancel the fund raiser and refund the money to the donors.
I agree with the editor. I'd like to know who these credible and established charities are. I'm thinking they aren't going to voluntarily tell us.
I wonder who is organizing and funding the truckers. Our leadership class is dedicated to discrediting them. In an effort to try and discredit them, I predict they are going to tell us Vladimir Putin and Russia are funding and directing them!! For what it's worth, I largely gave up on gofundme a long time ago.

Tow truck operator and farmers have joined the truckers. If they start seizing tractors alongside trucks, will Trudeau collectivize farms or will Canadians starve?
SNAFU, Lefties have the upperhand in education, government , media, and other institutions. But this populist revolt might be too big for them. Trudeau and the rest of them do not realize it.
I hope you're right. My first thought is Trudeau and company control the courts and they have the willingness and means to intimidate any judge or jury who would dare challenge them. As America's leadership class has the same power and agree with Trudeau, the same applies here.
I predict they'll blame this on Russia in an attempt to discredit it. I think Americans are fed up with this sort of thing and are now virulently antiwar so I don't think that manner of deception is going to work now. At least I hope and pray this is the case. In any event, obviously they aren't going to provide any evidence.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. I don't have much time for movies or "roles." It's been a long hard day. My family is resting. I took the time to study this carefully and I commented.
It is my considered opinion that should these truckers continue to gain in strength our leadership class will try and claim the Russians are behind them in an attempt to discredit them. As stated, I don't think it's going to work. You aren't getting the war with Russia you want. The rest of us aren't willing to sacrifice ourselves or our families to protect yours or Mitt Romney addociate business interests in Ukraine. Please offer something constructive in this discussion or stop trolling!!

I can't see how this can possibly be lawful. The money simply has to go to the cause that people donated to. Go Fund Me cannot send the donations to other charities that it deems worthy. Its not their money. If they do so, a criminal investigation will have to be commenced & those individuals concerned will have to be arrested, interviewed under caution & brought before the courts. If Go Fund Me dishonestly appropriates the funds & distributes them to other organisations,&the police refuse to do their duty, then a situation may develop where some Canadians may take the law into their own hands against certain individuals in Go Fund Me & Parliament. Not a good situation. Keep ducking 🙈

~24 hours of getting pummeled and thrashing around and GoFundMe has altered to "automatic refunds will be occurring over the next 7-10 days".
Even Musk was pointing out their gross hypocrisy between Canadian truckers' "occupation" and GoFundMe's support of the murderous CHOP occupation in Seattle.

Apparently the negative attention may have been to much for them. A court battle would've been even worse for their image even if they ultimately prevailed.
Essentially we get the sensible thing which is a course correction by the company management. A better action would've been to simply return the money in the first place if they didn't want association with this group.
Y'all are experiencing in Canada what those of us down here with open eyes witnessed during the 4 years of Trump, expecially 2020. You are seeing how deeply entrenched the 'other side' has become in your politics and media, and how tenaciously they will fight to keep the status quo. Believe me, they have also burrowed deep into your economic, educational, and military institutions, and they will stop at nothing to see that all opposition to their agenda is silenced. And it all happened over the last 30 years right under your noses, while you were asleep. Make no mistake, you are now at war, and the other side is in it to WIN. The deeper you go, the deeper it gets. And the sooner you realize that, the sooner you can start the long, difficult fight to take back your lives. Sadly, it may already be too late!
