New York Times Verifies Video Showing Ukrainian Soldiers Shooting Captured Russian Troops With Their Hands Tied Behind Their Backs

Video published on Wednesday shows Ukrainian soldiers killing their Russian counterparts with their hands tied behind their backs

Daily Mail: Horrifying video shows Ukrainian soldiers shooting captured Russian troops with their hands tied behind their backs amid accusations of similar Russian atrocities in Bucha

* The video, which the New York Times verified Wednesday, shows Ukrainian troops committing the killings after what appeared to be an ambush

* 'Film these marauders. Look, he's still alive. He's gasping,' one of the troops is heard saying

* One of the soldiers then shoots the man three times. After the second shot, the man keeps moving but stops after the third bullet

* There appear to be at least three other Russian soldiers dead lying near the latest victim

* The video was taken from a road just north of Dmytrivka, about seven miles southwest of Bucha

Video published on Wednesday shows Ukrainian soldiers killing their apparently captured Russian counterparts with their hands tied behind their backs - just as accusations of similar atrocities committed by Russian forces surface from the city of Bucha.

The video, which the New York Times verified Wednesday, shows Ukrainian troops committing the killings, after what appeared to be an ambush outside a village west of Kyiv.

'He's still alive,' one of the Ukrainians - identifiable by their flag patches and 'glory to Ukraine' paraphernalia - can be heard saying, as a Russian soldier is seen with a jacket pulled over his head. 'Film these marauders. Look, he's still alive. He's gasping.'

Update #1:

Video appears to show Ukrainian soldiers executing Russian soldier captured in an ambush outside Kyiv, New York Times reports (Business Insider)

Update #2: Video shows Ukrainian forces shooting dead a wounded Russian soldier (NYPost)

WNU Editor: This video is being shared throughout Russian social media with the government's blessing. Needless to say this is raising anger within Russia, and is feeding into the Kremlin's narrative that it is the Ukrainian military that is committing widespread atrocities and war crimes in this war not the Russian military. The video is here (link here).

I see wnu continues his one sided narrative.

Omg, really? He was already dead, his brain just didn't know it yet.

Much fuss about nothing.

And btw, it would be way more interesting and probably important to the narrative if we knew how they ended up like that.

Liberals carry diversity to a ridiculous level. It is why Michael Savage came up with "Diversity is perversity." I whole heartedly agree.

However having diverse people is helpful. My spouse is foreign born and bilingual. It is the bilingual part, which is probable responsible for them making a great living.

Not nationalists, but ultra-nationalists are going to retard Ukraine from recovering. Properly configured the ethnic Russian Ukrainians help increase business ties with Russia which increases business ties with Russia, which enriches all parties. We are talking growing the pie or synergy. How are ethnic Russian Ukrainians going to trust their fellow country men now (or after the war)? It will be a helluva lot harder.

War crimes are going to happen on both sides. There are not perfect people and there not perfect war. Number of occasions, quantity or percentages do matter.

Watch "The Pacific War: Okinawa and Guadalcanal" right at about the 10:35 mark.

The people in the film at least the officers should stand trial. They are identifiable and it is actionable.

If you read about Saipan during WW2 at the very least a few American combatants were taking gold teeth from the dead. It is no secret. There is reference to it in the film "The Thin Red Line". However at east according to Sledge, officers stepped in and put an end to it. They did their job.

If for no other reason than pragmatism Ukrainians officers and NCOs need to step in.

I always told my kids that if they were drafted and facing capture to not be among the first to raise their hands and to be in largish group, if at all possible. I told them this, because this is the way people around the world are. Their blood gets up.

Anyway these fools handed the Russian a propaganda victory and the Russian had no production costs for this episode.

I disagree with Hans. If the soldiers were initially shot in an ambush, why not give them first aid?

You get more intel from a live person than a dead one.

If you shoot wounded, it makes it harder to get others to surrender.

The purpose of war is not to kill people. I've read Sun Tzu at least twice. I have not read Clausewitz's book in its entirety, but he is not of the opinion that you have to kill people either.

They where Russian soldiers that is war but if they where Russian civilians different story.

Kinda hard to hold Russian POWs. Summery execution seems acceptable in this instance.

Not gonna put them back into circulation.

I agree of distinction between civilians and soldiers but nonetheless its ukraine that is constantly referencing the Geneva Convention

Serious?

"One sided narrative" meanwhile he's shared more than a couple posts that misrepresent the Bucha massacre in favor of the Ukrainian nationalists who did it. You can't seriously have the blinders on so completely.

"in favor of the Ukrainian nationalists who did it"

Lol. That statement alone just shows your warped mentality and really does not lend well to any argument you put forward in defense of the author.

The NY Times is a commie rag ,lol!!!

There's a lot of disgust, anger directed towards Russian soldiers for their war crimes committed against Ukrainian civilians. When you have that sort of pent-up hatred for your opponent in a war zone, stuff like this will happen. This is a brutal war, and it is only getting started.

It is on telegram and Twitter and the Ukraine soldier identified. Apparently throats were cut if that was your question? Sounds like you have seen the footage. And yes you are right anyone who has been around the death rattle knows he is already dead

Hans Persson said...

Of course I've seen it. What do you think I'm commenting on??? Sports??

jackman
that story is all over the place and so you're badmouthing one paper is sheer stupidity

fact: Am troops have also been involved in war crimes with both enemy troops and civilians.
We have though punished them when this became known. I know this first hand.

They invaded what do you expect? Easy for us who aren't there to comment.

Stephen Davenport said...

That is a war crime, and they should be arrested for doing so, if they are going to condemn the Russians for doing this crap, they have to the Ukrainians too.

Hans Persson said...

Yeah, let's go arrest everyone

Anonymous said...

Hans,

There are military police for a reason. You do not arrest everyone, but you do have to go after some like the most egregious.

Hans Persson said...

You don't get my point.

Who's MP's should go there and make the arrests? The US MP's? The Ukrainian MP's? The Russian MP's? NATO? France's MP's? etc etc.

All this is moot.

Snarky bit of euro trash ay. Won’t be til i see you bleeding out on the street you whimpering lil bitch. Go sharpen s stick or something

Ukrainian MPs and since the US and the EU are footing so much of the bill, I think that we have a say.

I apologize, I misunderstood your post.

How you know throats were cut? I can't find any info other than speculations.
All I can see is a mercy killing, it's impossible for me to see anything else from that video due to the language barrier.

What I want to know is what happened before and during the ambush that lead up to the video.

And how exactly would you see me bleeding out on a street?

You really think Russia would let Ukrainian MP's just waltz in and arrest a whole battalion??

Anonymous said...

Hans,

How could Russia stop Ukrainian MPs arresting Ukrainians soldiers on ground Ukraine controls other than by lobbing missiles?

If Russia intercepted communications and learned of MPs attempting to arrest Ukrainian soldiers for war crimes, why would they want to interfere?
