The Next Prime Minister Of Canada?

National Post: Pierre Poilievre elected new leader of the Conservative Party of Canada

Poilievre swept the contest with 68.15 per cent of the vote. Former Quebec premier Jean Charest, who came in second, only got 16.07 per cent

It was an overwhelming victory for Pierre Poilievre. Poilievre, 43, became the new leader of the Conservative Party of Canada on Saturday night after a lengthy and divisive seven-month leadership campaign that saw him be a clear frontrunner on all accounts – whether it be membership sales or fundraising.

WNU editor: Cannot say that I am surprised. I predicted this in February .... The Next Prime Minister Of Canada? (February 5, 2022).

The governing Liberals under Trudeau have to be concerned. Pierre Poilievre is a "fighter" and an excellent debater. I have seen him shred some of Canada's best know journalists and newscasters. You have to be on your A-game when confronting him. He is also fluently bilingual, and while not a social conservative, he is definitely a conservative on policy and economic issues.

He also has a lot of appeal. During his leadership campaign for the Conservative Party I noticed that he was pulling in massive crowds to see and hear him. Crowds that I have never seen before on Canada's Federal scene.

The biggest surprise that I got from watching him tonight was his wife. She was the one who introduced him to the crowd when he was officially announced the winner (on the first ballot with 68% of the vote). To say that she impressed me is an understatement. A refugee from Venezuela, she is the poster-child of an immigrant success story. Fluently multilingual (Spanish/French/English), you can easily tell that she is the rock in Pierre Poilievre's life.

So what is next? And can Pierre Poilievre win the next Federal Canadian election?

As I said 7 months ago.

But Pierre Poilievre will be going up against Prime Minister Trudeau who has the advantage of name recognition, experience, a unified Liberal Party behind him, and a lot of support from the media and special interest groups.

Bottom line.

Canadian politics has suddenly become very interesting.
