Hungarian PM Orban Says West Is ‘In A War With Russia’

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, right, is shown meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban for bilateral talks in Berlin on Oct. 10. In an interview Friday, Orban marvelled at how far Germany's position on weapons for Ukraine has changed in the past year. (Lisi Niesner/Reuters)

American Conservative: Viktor Orban: West Is ‘In A War With Russia’

Notes from a candid session with the antiwar Hungarian prime minister, who warns this conflict could easily get much worse It happened again.

This evening was the third time I've been in a small group session with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. I told the visiting journalists and publishers that they were going to be blown away by this guy, because they're not going to believe how different he is from the way he is portrayed in the Western media. He's sharp, funny, brilliant, and completely confident. He's not hovered over by press aides, and he doesn't guard his words to the point where he says nothing but mush. He's really interesting. As I told the folks I talked to before hand, at the conference, who were invited to meet later with the PM, "You're not going to believe that a world leader is actually like this."

As usual, after the event, there were stunned. Orban spent two hours with us, answering every question -- even particularly tough ones from a Polish journalist -- and was clearly loving it. I was never around Bill Clinton personally, but the things I read about how he was a natural politician -- it's at least as true of Viktor Orban. Last year, I was talking to a Fidesz politician about the PM, and he said there's not another politician in this country who can go from strategizing at the top level, to talking to country people at a farmer's market, and be utterly genuine in both places. I believe it. If he were on TV more in the United States, the view people have of Hungary would be totally different.

Update #1: Ukraine's allies have drifted into war but Hungary won't, Orban says (CBC/AP)

Update #2: Orban tears into Scholz for tanks deployment to Ukraine and declares 'you are at war' (Express)

WNU Editor:  He is right. The West is in a war with Russia, and Russia knows it.

Hungarian PM Orban is well known to be anti-war, and is a critic on how the EU is responding to the Russia-Ukraine war. But what is upsetting Ukraine is Orban's remarks to reporters that Ukraine is now a no man's land and comparing it to Afghanistan .... Ukraine to summon Hungarian envoy over 'unacceptable' remarks by Orban (Reuters).

"Hungarian PM Orban is well known to be anti-war" - He is also well known for being close to Putin. Not exactly a crime, but in the context of his 'anti-war' stance, it's important to evaluate his 'friends', Putin being someone who he has close ties with. Have we already forgotten his Jan 2022 so-called peace mission?

Orban has been blaming the West. Again not surprising coming from him.

The real issue is that Russia is at war with the West, not the other way that you and some of the Russian trolls on this blog are fond of phrasing.

Russia already had a taste of how NATO/West/EU treated it's "annexation" of Crimea. Statements of condemnation. Sanctions sanctions and more sanctions.

Are you going to tell me now that Russia has been blindsided by how the West/NATO has treated its response to invading a sovereign country? Did Russia truly not see this coming?

When Russia invaded Ukraine, it was meant to be a short precise 'special operation' that would conclude in May. There's captured material already alluding to this. Intercepted phone calls and self-admittance from Russian troops who first got involved in the war, that this was the case. A quick precise operation to enact regime change, an act that Russia took based on extremely bad intel. They suffered immensely for it.

This war was not meant to go on, in Russia's mind. To them, it should have ended in May last year. It didn't. We are now in 2023.

It seems the WNU Author and a few others are extremely ignorant of this fact and very short-term in their memory to not recall that Ukraine had attempted peace maneuvers with Russia during the first few months of the war, but it was Russia who decided to continue. Russia has never been serious about peace. They are invested now in regime change. Ukraine is past the point of accepting peace with Putin. It's too late now.

And the Western alliances continue to pour and pour into Ukraine, much to the chagrin of Russia.

There are some fools who call this 'escalation' and that the West are foolishly involving themselves in a war that is on their doorstep. The West have no choice. To turn a blind eye to Ukraine, a democratic sovereign state, would be a black stain on democratic ideals and the international order. To allow a BULLY like Russia to engage, once again, in warfare to seize territory...

But of course we have Russian aligned blog authors and others who see this as the West's fault. There's no changing their mind, only continually pointing out why it's a flawed mindset.

The West has blood on their hands too. History is full of it. Everyone is guilty of something. And I believe that it's likely that the West was involved in the Nord Stream 2 bombing.

But none of that changes the simple statement of: Russia is at war with the West. And they never wanted it. They wanted a quick war in Ukraine. A gambit that didn't pay off. The ball has always been in their court.

Going back 2 or 3 years there have been cyber attacks originating out of Russia.

These were attributed to criminal gangs whereupon people noted that the Russian security apparatus would surely have known. Therefore they further opined that it was condoned or ordered. So Russia was at war with the Us back then. It was hybrid war, but that is still war.

So spare us your pieties WNU.

I cannot understand the comments complaining about the insanity of the West bit completely ignoring the outrageous insanity of Russia, it’s leaders and population…how come that WNU and his similar minded trolls are not pointing out this fact???

It seems the WNU Author and a few others are extremely ignorant of this fact and very short-term in their memory to not recall that Ukraine had attempted peace maneuvers with Russia during the first few months of the war, . Russia has never been serious about peace

Point 1....You forget The Russians and the Ukies were working on a peace deal.
Then Boris Johnson, Prime Minister of UK made a special trip to visit zelinski and squashed the deal.

(your words)
but it was Russia who decided to continue

So I guess Boris is a secret deluded Putin minion?

Point 2: If the Ukies were so serious about peace why did they abuse the Minsk Agreement process.

Point 3
Yes, escalation is not good when dealing with the Russians, Americans, Chinese or Israelis. Providing weapons to the enemy force of one of these nations is fraught with risk. You take big chances with this.

As for the USA, this is not our fight. The Ukraine is a: third world, corrupt, cesspool and a money pit, Just like Afghanistan, Vietnam and Iraq.

It may be Europe's concern, but not ours.

Ultimately, Ukraine is Russia's Mexico, We went into Grenada and Panama for lesser reasons, so I am not surprised that the Russians invaded. The mistake they made was not invading in 2014, before the poison set in.

If you think this is some glorious battle for freedom or human rights, its not.. But here you go...... The right of the people of Donbas to live without fear and the right of ethnic Russian minorities to live with out fear or persecution if they are citizens of Ukraine.

Your fine zelinski government and its predacesor was installed by the USA neocon element of Nulland and her ilk. Now the Ukraine is being used as a sacrificial tool to weaken the Russian state.

Spare me your self righteous bullshit about peace and freedom and dignity. The monsters in DC care about none of that. This is their war, A war to break the Russians so their progressive ideology will have free reign in Europe and afterwards, the world.

DC is evil. It is like the Capital District in the Hunger Games.

You are either blind or just to stupid to swim your way out of the propaganda lies that Our government has been feeding you. Wake up, Dont'stop reading buzzfeed, the Atlantic and CNN reports. Its crap, but compare what they have said to other reports from alternate sources a year later.

9/10 times you will find that they lie. Just like Covid, Benghazi, Afghanistan, Russian gate, and all the rest.

But you won't do that, will you? No, you are not going to change. You are not going to use critical thinking skills or historical precedent when sifting thru truthful vs untruthful reporting.

No, you will continue to believe everything they say, until you get off that East bound train, they put you on.

Dear 1200,

Just because the Democrat Heavies are sons of bitches does not preclude rasputin from also being a son of a bitch.

Just because citizens in the Us have a near enemy does not preclude them from fighting the far enemy at the same time. you would like it to be so, because you would rather be a Russian keyboard warrior than to be rounded up and sent to Donetsk, which is a very real threat.

Hitler actually rounded up his rocket techs and sent them to Leningrad. He though they were more useful as grunts than developing a nascent tech. rasputin has a lot of the same moves as Herr Hitler. Sleep tight tonite.

Well, it is the insufferable, illogical UKIE RAH Rah who is incapable of independent thought. Who never answers the questions and has a train ticket because he believes the MSM/Government narrative

that there are "places in the East" for him.

Well, Do you understand? Do you understand what poster 1200 said?

lets start with an easy one. Point 1 question...

Is Boris Johnson a Putin stooge?

Sir--
I note nearly every post that badmouths CNN, NY Times, or Washington Post as evil or wrong or lying that the author of the post never offers what he reads or views to get "the truth." Why is that?

2:49 Fred R. Lapides does not know that 12:00 is a Russian troll. Of course 2:49 may not be FRL but someone imitating Fred's style.

1200's attack is in this case jingoistic, but at times they can easily and legitimately show problems with American politicians that FRL supports.
