U.S. Navy Secretary Says China's Naval Fleet Is Growing And The US 'Can't Keep Up' With Warship Production

Daily Mail: China's naval fleet is growing and the US 'can't keep up' with the warship buildup as Beijing uses its sea power to project an 'increasingly aggressive military posture globally,' Navy Secretary warns

* US Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro voiced concern in remarks on Wednesday

* Said China has 340 active warships, compared to about 280 for the US Navy

* Claimed US naval shipyards can't match the output of Chinese ones

The US Secretary of the Navy has raised the alarm that China's naval fleet surpasses America's in number of ships, and is growing faster than the US has current capacity to match.

'It is no secret that the People's Republic of China seeks to upend our dominance on the oceans across the globe,' said Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro in remarks at the National Press Club in Washington DC on Wednesday.

Del Toro said that China's navy has recently added over one hundred combatants to its fleet, calling it 'a naval buildup that is a key component of its increasingly aggressive military posture globally.'

We built The Golden Gate Bridge in four years, '33 to '37. We have the brains and manpower to be that great however that power and ingenuity is hogtied by lawyers, dirt worshipers, multi layers of redundant administrators and bureaucrats. We could keep up with any nation if the foot of government was not planted firmly on our necks and the hand of government was not in our wallets.

Alot of our fleet is made up of Cold War relics that need to be decommissioned. They are past their service life and are a maintenance burdens in both time and money.

Building up the the Navy to meet a threat is not a priority for The Grifting Grifters.

Joe Biden and his handlers will take care of the problem like they do in Ukraine. They will provide what is needed, but long after it was needed.

They do not quite see the urgency yet, but they do see the urgency of building up their bank accounts.

It is much better to be a Democrat Congressman living in a 5 star hotel in DC than a Republican congressman living in a dorm. The Democrats went after the dorm.

For China it's new tech, which is notoriously glitchy. Ships and crews are untested, and China is a newcomer to large-area naval tactics. That doesn't mean they're toothless, but they definitely have a learning curve to maneuver before they can be considered world class. The U.S. has been building large carriers for over 70 years. We still have an advantage, but that could disappear if we don't get back on track.

Maybe announcing "the pivot to asia" was kind of stupid.

It’s not the size of your ship but how you use it

The other point left unsaid is location of those naval assets for both sides: Chinese and Americans.

America has world wide commitments and our forces are spread across the globe,
China's main area of interest is the Pacific and it is also the operational area of the majority [over 90%] of thier ships.

So when looking at potential warfighting capabilities in that area of the world, you have to factor that in.
The US will come to battle with a lot less ships.

Shipbuilding? We discussed that before on this blog. Takes the US years, years to build a ship. This does not include sea trials. To repair a damaged ship. It takes years. Look at the SF and Cole. Out of commission for a long time.

America has experience and technology. China at this point is still learning and their technology is not nearly as tested but they certainly have the ship numbers and appear to increase those numbers more quickly.
I would think a war between the two would leave both in poor shape and exhausted.
For China there are not so secure borders that could be a problem and food insufficiencies.

I go with the US by a bit.
