Is The Age Of US Navy Dominance On The World's Oceans Coming To An End?

The Theodore Roosevelt and Nimitz Carrier Strike Groups steam in formation on scheduled deployments to the 7th Fleet area of operations. (U.S. Navy/Mass Communication Specialist 3rd Class Elliot Schaudt)

Jerry Hendrix, The Atlantic: The Age of American Naval Dominance Is Over

The United States has ceded the oceans to its enemies. We can no longer take freedom of the seas for granted.

Very few Americans—or, for that matter, very few people on the planet—can remember a time when freedom of the seas was in question. But for most of human history, there was no such guarantee. Pirates, predatory states, and the fleets of great powers did as they pleased. The current reality, which dates only to the end of World War II, makes possible the commercial shipping that handles more than 80 percent of all global trade by volume—oil and natural gas, grain and raw ores, manufactured goods of every kind. Because freedom of the seas, in our lifetime, has seemed like a default condition, it is easy to think of it—if we think of it at all—as akin to Earth’s rotation or the force of gravity: as just the way things are, rather than as a man-made construct that needs to be maintained and enforced.

But what if the safe transit of ships could no longer be assumed? What if the oceans were no longer free?

WNU Editor: The above article makes the case on why America needs a strong navy. But will the White House and Congress spend the money to make it happen? If the recent budget request for the US Navy and Marine Corps is any indication (link here), the answer is no.

The Atlantic's a neocon rag. Billy Kristol could have written this article. Big Navy? Where will you get the money?
And will it be spent well? They now realize the folly of their Littoral combat ships. They want to scrap them all.

Until you get some decent military and political leadership, spending more money on the navy is questionable, just look at the USS Ford. 14 plus years in building, testing and evaluation. it is just getting on its feet.

Let the Canadians build a new navy :)

^ Russian

The Atlantic's [sic] a liberal rag.

You do realize Billy Kristol is 70. He is not really a thing anymore. Bill Kristol has an acute case of TDS. He is no longer capable of coherent thought. He is inchoate like a newborn.

I like the Canadian dig. It becomes you. Canada with 105 of the population would be able to make up for any deficit the Us has. You are bad joke Russky. You should be sent to Bakhmut.

The Atlantic Bias

https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/the-atlantic/

"These media sources have a slight to moderate liberal bias. They often publish factual information that utilizes loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by appeals to emotion or stereotypes) to favor liberal causes. These sources are generally trustworthy for information but may require further investigation"

The most I got out of Kristol's wiki entry is that he hated Trump and therefore was leaving the Republican party. that tells me that Kristol does not stand on principle, Therefore IMO he is not coherent. Another way of stating it is inchoate.

Kristol is butt hurt that Trump wanted to withdraw from Afghanistan and Syria. America was never going to win the war in Afghanistan (at least very, very unlikely) due to Pakistan stabbing us in the back. It is now widely acknowledged that Pakistan did. Did you get the memo?

Do you ever get the memo?

Other than the Democrat TPM?

Suria: Trump wanted to pull put. Bureaucrats defied the lawful order of a president. They are not in jail. The benefit of a Trump pull out is that at least we would or should have had a conversation as to why we are there. Very hard to wage a war when 30% of some such stat of people are against it. The president cannot be the only leader making the case for war. I think we should be in Syria and I also support pulling out. We should really not be there until we have a conversation about our objective(s).

If we did a poll on the street what would polled Americans say why we were in Syria?

Jailing people like Wilson(D) did in WW1 is not the way to go. People should be persuaded.

Now we might be leaving Syria but unlike under Trump it will not be by choice, but could be more like a force out. Do you approve of that look?

Trump this and Trump that. Fact: he loses elections. period.
Now, my considered view, a worthwhile one so pay attention. If you skim through the posts here you get the impression that the US is in major free fall, has become a second-rate power. That is not so. China is clearly increasing its move toward becoming a major world player, but Russia has fallen far from where it had once been. China has major demographic problems, and its economy counts on America a great deal, still. The US military and its economy are still in place, making it the world's number one power.

"If you skim through the posts here you get the impression that the US is in major free fall,"

Two reasons:

1) there are Russian trolls here trying to depress or convince people.

2) America is on the wrong track. Biden and Obama are greedy idiots.

Proof for #2

88% Of Americans Say U.S. Is On Wrong Track - Forbes

Why everyone agrees that America is on 'the wrong track' - MSNBC

"China has major demographic problems, and its economy counts on America a great deal, still." All that education and you still cannot think for yourself, can you boy.

It does not matter, if the TPM came down from DC or Moscow. You cannot think.

At least you can still masticate and excrete. So there is that.

Skoda,

You and your buddy Mr Fair and Balanced are working overtime today. TPM is the new word of sophistication for the day?

Couple of things

a. Kristol may be 70, but that is lame reasoning to say he is a non player. He is a prime member of the Neocon establishment along with Kagan. To say he has no influence because he is old is non sequitur.

b. You want to believe in the "Atlantic", go ahead. they were the ones who pushed the Trump calling WW2 vets suckers along with the COVID forgiveness BS. Still running with the Dems / Neocons are you?

c. "Russian Trolls" "are trying to convince." No genius. facts are facts. I am sorry you and your democratic CRT buddies cannot handle it, but America has some serious financial and political problems. Brushing those problems off by saying those are all lies by Russian trolls and racists is laughable. And it is not going to solve those problems.

Hope this helps and vote anti blob next election.

BTW slick move turning this thread away from the problem with the Navy. That must be your title at Hanover. , "Senior Blog Thread Manipulator. GS-5".

^ If you are noticing then you must be working overtime as well. I see that you still are not as good as Soviet agents of yore, who use to peruse Aviation Week and space technology. sad.
