USA Today: On the 20th anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, these photos tell the story of the war

Sunday marks 20 years since American and coalition forces invaded Iraq on a mission to topple Saddam Hussein’s dictatorship and find weapons of mass destruction.

Former President George W. Bush and his administration wagered to the American public and the international community that Hussein was hiding weapons of mass destruction.

The coalition found no such weapons, and two years later the WMD Commission, established by Bush, acknowledged in a report that the "WMD" fiasco was “one of the most public – and most damaging – intelligence failures in recent American history.”

Forces did succeed in knocking Hussein out of power, clearing the way for a fraught nation-building project that would stretch for nearly a decade.

The US committed war crimes on false pretences 20 years ago today.

Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990 and Saudi Arabia in 1991. At that time Iraq hit Israel with ballistic missiles. Iraq had also invaded Iran in 1980.

Iraq lost the wear and signed an armistice. A armistice is different than a peace treaty. you would think a former member of the ICAO would know this. Maybe they do and they just don't give a damn.

Iraq then proceeded to break the armistice repeatedly by impeding surprise inspections, painting aircraft in the no fly zone and lying about their military capabilities. The US went to the UN many times. How many times did Russia go to the UN or get a resolution passed?

I bet Russia goes to the UN in the future because its Chinese ally has shown they can buy the UN. They bought WHO.

With the current acceleration of events I'm starting to think there's smaller hope for a future for each day that passes.. so don't go around hoping that "the future" will solve anything.

9:53. Breaking the armistice? Bull shit. There was no reason to go into that country.
If Iraq was in the middle of Africa no one would have cared.
But Bush wanted sadaam gone and so did the Israelis
So they invaded and we stayed ....for years.
