Are Canadians Buying Less Food?

WNU Editor: Food inflation has definitely changed how people buy food (and everything else for that matter). I am also willing to bet that what is happening in Canada, is also happening throughout the Western world.

I'm finding that the price of eating out hasn't risen nearly as much as the cost of groceries. I guess restaurant owners are simply having to eat the price hikes these days to try and compete?

I don't know what you're talking about, but here there is up to 30%-50% jumps on groceries. Not that they really have to rise the prices, but because everyone else is doing it and they can. Certain very well known brands has been redacted from the common grocer's just because of ridiculous price jumps. I think we're even starting some investigations into this in Sweden. Nothing will happen of course.

People here counts in grocery bags, and what used to be money for 4 bags 2 years ago now only is enough for maybe 2 bags.

Simple math by simple Sweeds.

Eating out is becoming a class issue, let alone going out for drinks.

Yeah thats a great way to get some perspective on life. We all need a reminder that our parents grew up without hot showers (at least we middle agers). It all can be taken away.

Im in alberta, and ya i buy way less grocries for my family of 6 on a single income. The inflation #s at the grocery stores are insane. Fturdue!

Most of the stuff i used to buy pre inflation has gone up in price about 80%-100%, and that was just basic foods like bread, ric, cheese, milk, eggs, etc. Thank God we can still get the bulk of our meat from hunting.

Small time farming has gone up a lot in the last decade. At least up here it seems that more and more households now provide their own eggs, for example.
Meanwhile our government has more or less made farmers obsolete, farmers cant survive. Tools are too expensive if you're going to be serious about it, and now the fuel prices strangles the last proud ones that's clinging on.
Were definitely going to stranger times.
