Saudi FM Meets Syrian President Assad In Damascus For The First Time Since The Start Of The Civil War

Al-Monitor: Saudi foreign minister arrives in Syria, meets Assad

The visit is Prince Faisal bin Farhan's first since the start of the civil war and follows the Syrian foreign minister's trip to Saudi Arabia last week.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan landed in Syria on Tuesday, the first such visit since the start of the civil war in 2011. The trip represents a continuing and significant shift in the kingdom’s policy toward Syria.

Farhan was received by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The two discussed efforts towards finding a "political solution" to the Syria conflict that would "preserve Syria's unity, security, stability, Arab identity, and territorial integrity." They also talked about the "return of Syria to its Arab fold and the resumption of its natural role in the Arab world," according to a statement from the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Gulf States financed the war in Syria on their own volition. They were there before the US. As soon as Assad began arresting protesters and torturing them, the Qataris were there. Syria is a a Sunni majority country or was until the Iranians and Russians began depopulating it. cutting down the Shia Iranian or Syrian down to size and avenging the protesters is enough for the Gulf States to jump in.

Gotta say it's damned fascinating. Maybe the Abraham Accords helped.
Only partly sarcastic.

Also note zero UN coordination. The rest of the world is moving on from that corrupt trust fund farm.

What a bunch of BS. The United States funded, trained and coordinated with isis in order to destroy the country and gain control of the oil fields. All the while the Assad forces, who were trying to fight Isis, was being bombed by the Americans. The amount of death and history lost forever is unprecedented by any other conflict that has come and gone in that region. Get your head out of your arse.
