ABC News: Ukraine taking heavy casualties 10 weeks into its counteroffensive

The Ukrainian counteroffensive on the eastern front began in June.

There is mounting evidence that Ukraine has been taking heavy casualties in its counteroffensive, which began roughly ten weeks ago.

ABC News spoke with two former U.S. soldiers who are contracted in a special forces division of the Ukrainian military and who were both injured during an operation in eastern Ukraine two weeks ago.

Both soldiers are currently in a hospital in Kyiv but said they hope to be transferred to Germany for surgery this week in order to remove shrapnel from their bodies.

Update: Foreign mercenaries reveal shocking casualty rates in Ukraine – media (RT)

WNU Editor: After the above ABC News report was posted, US officials leaked this to the New York Times .... Troop Deaths and Injuries in Ukraine War Near 500,000, U.S. Officials Say (DNYUZ/New York Times). The problem with the New York Times report is that it is quoting US officials that heavily rely on Kyiv to provide Russian and Ukrainian casualty numbers.

It's important to note that according to the article the size of the unit taking 80% casualties (meaning KIA and wounded) was "dozens" of men. That makes it most likely a single platoon. That is not normally the unit size people mention when talking about casualty figures because such small unit sizes can easily take high casualties while the rest of their larger unit takes very little. What happens to a single platoon may not be indicative of the overall casualty rate. It's also important to note the article states that 80% of Ukrainian casualties are caused by artillery. So a platoon suffering such losses might have been hit by one or two lucky artillery shells.

On the other hand, we have plenty of Russian units - usually of company (hundreds) battalion size (many hundreds of troops) - reporting casualties of 25%, 40%, or 80% on Russian social media and begging people to help them get their unit withdrawn. But WNU Editor somehow never reports them. After all, reporting that doesn't help Russian propaganda.

The fighting now is very hard so I do not doubt Ukrainians are taking significant losses. But reporting "80%" in the headline is very deceptive.

Since Ukraine now seems to be winning the artillery duel and eliminating 15-25 Russian batteries per day, hopefully we will see that reflected in decreased Ukrainian casualties and increased Russian casualties. The recent Ukrainian advances of the past week seems to indicate the Russians are being degraded worse relative to the Ukrainians.

This is why, 2 weeks ago, Zelensky banned all 16 and 17 year old males from leaving the country. A new mobilization is direly needed now, and it's not going to restrict itself to pulling boys off the streets; they'll be kicking in doors looking for the men who simply don't leave their homes to avoid the "recruiters". And Zelensky knows that they're out there because he just sacked every regional draft office head in the country for taking bribes to allow men to stay at home and avoid the front.

Sometimes it really feels like both sides are just cooperating on a plan to depopulate the country.

When I wrote "Obama lover" I want the guy was in stupid in love with Obama's stupid policies.

But I can see, where you (6:58) could get confused.

1) Obama told his girlfriend that he had gay sex fantasies
2) Larry Sinclair went on the record and said he serviced Obama with a BJ in a limo
3) Obama throws like a girl and wears mom jeans.
4) Obama is a Democrat.

You are just jealous because you thought M. Kaleo Manuel was moving in on your secret love interest.

Whatever, you are gay, you are not gay, I don't care. What I do care about is when a person is stupid in love with Obama's environmental policies and withholds life saving aid. In this case it was water. He withheld it for 5+ hours.

Climate change trumps fighting fires and saving lives. So sayeth all us loony tune Democrats.

Chris is an idiot and comes up with some bizarre numbers. I guess him and his buddies are looking at the magic 8 ball again for casualty figures.

But we know from dozens of reports, some here on wnu, that the ukies have taken huge casualties and they are running out of men, Seen pics of any ukie units lately?? Mostly, old men and boys.

Many of their units have been refilled 2 or three times with new men,;. Remember those stories? Remember the Battalion commander who was relieved for telling the truth?

Yes, Cris and his lying friends would have you forget these things.

These bastards are just a bunch of braying jackasses

. Ukrainian graveyards are full of dead and zelinski is press-ganging more bodies into the army.

but go ahead, believe the blobber fantasies , how did all the BS talk about the glorious counter offensive turn out?

BTW. this is how we know Chris is a bot or info operations guy. He will not reply to this post or any other post. Go out there and try to verify any of his "facts". or his sources.

You won't find them , because they do not exist, unless you go to the Ukrainian SBU site or to their Tranny army spokesman.

Good luck with that.

Read article

You have to put this into perspective to wade thru the bullshit.

1. With casualty rates, The article goes back and forth between a particular unit in combat and then the Total war.

2. The particular named unit supposedly received 80% casualties. maybe, maybe not.

3 War casualties of other units are said ( in the article ) to be at anywhere from 40 to 60 %.

4. Units supposedly are still receiving untrained soldiers..

5. The article states that both sides have had high casualties, but gives no sources.

6. It is known that Western press and even the pentagon takes casualty figures from the Ukrainian government statistics, which have proven to be highly unreliable.

7. From interviews and other sources we know that the Ukrainian army has suffered horrendous casulities,. This has come for personal interviews, and estimates by NGOs across a wide spectrum, so this may have seem credibility.

The Ukrainians have a lot of dead, and a lot more wounded. The Russians , not so much.

My advice to you is to look at the historical facts of the last 6 months.

Once last thing everybody, both Ukraine and non Ukrainian sources say the Ukrainians have deployed their last reserve unit... the 82nd combat team into the conflict. This is not good

Now that says more than anything else on this page.

They are sending in their LAST reserve unit.

So what happened to all the other western trained brigades they had.? I do not see any of them in Sevastopol or Mariupol right now. And it looks like they will not be there any time soon.

That means a couple of things that you can guess for your self.

One thing is right on this. Colonel McGregor was right again. This was the third army put together by the Ukrainians. It was supposed to be an exceptional game changing army trained and equipped by the west. Now it seems , with the deployment of the last brigade, that army too has been demolished.

Who does that leave?

The territorial guard?

From that what that polish officer and those two American advisors said in the last 90 days, I do not give it much hope.

If you got a better analysis here, I certainly would like to see it. Tell me how this Ukrainian army is going to make a come back?

Tell me where are they going to get the men to fight. Yes they have reserves, This I know. But how many and how effective are they? What type of equipment do they have?

How are they being trained, a lot of those guys are using wooden AKs to train with.

Also and most important, without an Air Force and more artillery , how are they going to break the Russian hold on the current superiority of Fire support??

( sorry fazman your 1 to 4 ratio in artillery and the ideas that the Ukrainian quality or arms is sufficient to be superior to the current Russian quantity does not add up, and you have never stated where you get these figures from).

I do not see it.

But there are many chances in the world.

Mr. Nobody

there is not an alternate analysis. And like you said before.

The Ukrainians need a lot more artillery...they need artillery overmatch.

The Ukrainians need an Air force. One that has at least parity, or better yet, overmatch to Russian forces.

Ukraine needs highly trained personnel to go with all of the above.

Only one force has the ability to provide this type of capability..... NATO.

For the Ukraine to" win", Nato has to enter the war. (define win). :)

So if NATO does not enter, what will be the out come? Unknown. DMZ type of situation? Ukraine a rump state with no Black Sea coast line? Poles take back Galicia? Guerrilla war for years to come? Unknown.

But if no NATO. then Putin and John Mearsheimer's predictions for the Ukraine will have all come true. Ukraine will be a basket case and "failed state" for years to come. They will be on Western life support.
