At The Start Of The War Sholz And Macron Were Surprised That Putin Did Not Bring Up The Issue Of Sanctions In Their Discussions

Ukrainska Pravda: Scholz reveals details of talks with Putin: conspiracy theories and odd reaction to sanctions

Journalist Stephan Lamby has gained access to the transcript of a conversation between German Сhancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron during which they discussed their talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The talks between Scholz and Putin were held on 4 March 2022, day nine of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Scholz revealed in his conversation with Macron that the situation "is not getting better".

Update #2: Scholz, Macron wonder why Putin kept quiet about sanctions in 2022 talks with them — Bild (TASS)

WNU Editor: It is always something to see the "Masters of the Universe" being surprised when they notice their actions are being ignored by others. This Bild article tells me that the Kremlin had already game-planned-out the impact that sanctions would have.

Putin is a master at this game. He already had conversations with the CCP, talks with other nations including India for Russian gas and oil, food stuffs, supplies, etc. The Western "Powers" are children at this game.

He knew with his plans the west would be crushed by rising prices, lack of gas and oil, ever rising inflation and a clown like Biden in office. He is waiting the west out and he will succeed.

The decadent Western "powers" are more concerned with climate change BS and trans/gay/pedophile rights to see it.

Macron and Scholzomatic are welfare party politicians. It is how they get elected and maintain their base of power. They do not think in terms of Genghis Khan conquest. So WNU is actually paying them a compliment.

have some respect. It is hard making a living as a gaslighter. One day WNU will be as good as Jean Pierre.

It's important to note that at the time of that phone call Putin thought it would be a short war, I mean "special military operation". If you don't envision any serious fighting lasting after the first week, or at most the first month, then why worry about sanctions? His intention was to perform a fait accompli, after which the West would either stop any sanctions from happening or reverse any sanctions immediately put into place because they'd now be meaningless and the Germans and French would want to resume business with Russia.

If Putin had thought the war would last a long time, he would have ordered the Finance Ministry and other power levels to pull out the $300+ billion of foreign exchange reserves currently frozen internationally. He didn't because he knew that would eliminate surprise, which is what he was counting on to quickly overwhelm Ukraine.

When this phone call was had on March 4, 2022, Russia still looked like it might win. People thought Kyiv might still be encircled, Russia columns were advancing from Kherson west of the Dnipro, Kharkiv was under siege, and large parts of northern Ukraine were being occupied. Although the invasion was now past the one week timetable, things still seemed to be looking up for Putin. If Putin thought Kyiv would fall in a week and soon his tanks would be at the Polish border, he could brush off sanctions.

But it's now over 18 months, Russia has lost around 60% of the Ukrainian territory it held at its maximum extent, the sanctions are still on, NATO has expanded, the alliance members are investing in long term rearmament programs, and Ukraine is getting stronger relative to Russia on the battlefield.

This isn't the result of Putin being a "master of the game". It shows him making a huge blunder (multiple in fact). While WNU Editor loves to say the sanctions are having no effect or are irrelevant, it is definitely causing problems for Putin. Once the Russian Finance Ministry could no longer prop up the ruble artificially by running out of foreign exchange, the ruble has collapsed in value steadily since June 2022. Russia's current account fund has declined 85%. Oil and has revenue have severely declined. Russia's budget is now in deficit and must be financed internally. Its national wealth fun will likely run out in the next 6-12 months after which it must cannibalize internal investment and consumption.

A million of Russia's best, youngest workers have fled the economy. While Russia is able to evade some sanctions by buying washing machine computer chips and civilian GPS for their military, they are clearly not able to build any modern military equipment in meaningful numbers. Russia is only able to keep their current number of planes afloat by cannibalizing aircraft and importing used spare parts near or past their replace date. They are able to get by now, but at some point planes will either start falling from the sky or will need to be grounded. It is only going to get worse.

Economic sanctions never lead to a sudden collapse. WNU Editor was right on that. But they are like an anaconda slowly strangling the life out of someone. While we may only now be getting to the point where the effects of sanctions are starting to be noticeable, but even WNU Editor admits the war is likely to last two years or more. This does not mean the Russian economy will collapse. It is self-sufficient in natural resources and good. But it is having a negative impact on Russia's ability to wage the war, and this impact will continue to grow.
