Visualizing The BRICS Expansion In 4 Charts

Zero Hedge: Visualizing The BRICS Expansion In 4 Charts

BRICS is an association of five major countries including Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Distinguished by their emerging economies, the group has sought to improve diplomatic coordination, reform global financial institutions, and ultimately serve as a counterbalance to Western hegemony.

On Aug. 24, 2023, BRICS announced that it would formally accept six new members at the start of 2024: Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, Argentina, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The West has its own problems. But when China - which is the foundational member of BRICS - is demonstrating paper mache' economics, the long term threat of BRICS is way overstated.

Aug 15 (Reuters) - China suspended publication of its youth jobless data on Tuesday, saying it needed to review the methodology behind the closely watched benchmark, which has hit record highs in one of many warning signs for the world's second-largest economy.

The decision announced shortly after the release of weaker-than-expected factory and retail sales data sparked rare backlash on social media amid growing frustration about employment prospects in the country.

Quote
HONG KONG/NEW YORK, Aug 18 (Reuters) - Embattled developer China Evergrande Group (3333.HK) has filed for U.S. bankruptcy protection as part of one of the world's biggest debt restructurings, as anxiety grows over China's worsening property crisis and its impact on the weakening economy.

China unexpectedly lowered several key interest rates earlier this week in a bid to shore up struggling activity and is expected to cut prime loan rates on Monday, but analysts say moves so far have been too little, too late, with much more forceful measures needed to stem the economy's downward spiral.

Once China's top-selling developer, Evergrande has become the poster child of an unprecedented debt crisis in the country's property sector, which accounts for roughly a quarter of the economy, after facing a liquidity crunch in mid-2021.

The developer has sought protection under Chapter 15 of the U.S. bankruptcy code, which shields non-U.S. companies that are undergoing restructurings from creditors that hope to sue them or tie up assets in the United States.

While the step is seen as procedural, it indicates that the company is nearing the end of its restructuring process after more than one and a half years of negotiations with creditors.

Evergrande said in a filing on Friday that it will ask the U.S. court for recognition of schemes of arrangement under the offshore debt restructuring for Hong Kong and the British Virgin Islands as its dollar notes are governed by New York law.

"The application is a normal procedure for the offshore debt restructuring and does not involve (a) bankruptcy petition," it said in the filing, adding it is pushing forward with its offshore debt restructuring.

The company proposed scheduling a Chapter 15 recognition hearing for Sept. 20.

Evergrande's offshore debt restructuring involves a total of $31.7 billion, which include bonds, collateral and repurchase obligations. It will meet with creditors later this month on its restructuring proposal.

A string of Chinese property developers have defaulted on their offshore debt obligations since Evergrande ran into trouble, leaving unfinished homes and unpaid suppliers, shattering consumer confidence in the world's second-largest economy. Property investment, sales and new construction starts have been contracting for over a year.
DOMINO EFFECT?

The property crisis has also fanned worries about contagion risks to the financial system, which could have a destabilising impact on an economy already weakened by tepid domestic and foreign demand, faltering factory activity and rising unemployment.

A major Chinese asset manager has missed repayment obligations on some investment products and warned of a liquidity crisis, while Country Garden (2007.HK), the country's No.1 private developer, has become the latest to flag a stifling cash crunch.

Mermaids from the USA and Europe will have to hit a lot of hoe and carry boxes now, do you think that Africa and other continents are beggars? Who has the gold the resources and food huh??? Dollar it's just a paper that in the future will be worth nothing, because we already have Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, Russia and China already dominate Mining and we even have North Korea mining, The shot backfired and the USA will really become a terrible territory to live in like France, a country in its divided state without resources even for growing food, the price of the lack of manufacturing and hard work is expensive, so congratulations to the new superpowers while the colored flag is on the agenda of the people of the north

Crying? just stating the fact that China is a Potemkin economy. They really are going to bite it in a big way and drag us a good way down with them. Thanks to the illegitimate Biden disaster.

Food? The US is the world's bread basket. Just about ANY natural resource, we have them all in generational abundance. /Except education in economics and mathematics.

The problem is progressive Marxists sown throughout our government. Demanding people have LESS. Never an urge to provide abundant affordable energy to the American People, punishing food suppliers, restricting industry - instead its always a demand to have less, use less, take things away.

You are fast to group GDPs of countries together, just because they share a cover brand

India and China are almost at war and have been for decades - no one is surprised if it were to break out tomorrow. You count them together? LOL

Anonymous said...

Or Russia and China: They pretend to be friends now - do you think either forgets that they wanted to nuke each other and it took US President (was it Truman still?) to intervene and stop this - people forget how much of enemies they were.

Also: Do you think the Han Chinese, a supremacist atheist party that forbids organized religion (== read: beats Christians, Muslims and Jews to a pulp) is compatible with Russia? Russia is full of Christians, Jews and Muslims. Even Putin would have trouble to sell this when the Han Chinese start tearing down churches in Russia.

Migration to most of these countries is zero or negative.

Especially(!) in China and Russia

Their demographics alone spell death in < 50 years.

South Africa is not a nation. It is a tribe. We hear about white south Africans how? When they marry someone rich and famous. Like the woman who married Hunter Biden. Biden was her get out of South Africa alive card.

You know, South Africa, where they song the "Kill Whitey" song. It goes beyond ANC hating whites. They hate Indians too.

How about mixed race in Cape Town province? Are they safe?

Once all the above is squared away will Xhosa turn Zulu?

South Africa is not a a nation but a tribe.

I saw that in stories about the shooter Adam Lanza years ago. Two stories were posted on The Blaze. One was posted during the work day. The vitriol was so thick you could cut it with a knife. A second article was posted about 7 or 8 in the evening. It had nothing but personal experiences about mental health, scholarly articles etc. The comment thread was calm and informative.

More than a few people get paid to tear things up on comment threads on the internet.

PUTIN VERSUS BIDEN

"Sometimes a nap isn’t just a nap. Biden’s sudden somnolence in Maui appeared to coincide with a bout of heavy breathing. Previous videos appear to suggest something similar. Biden may not be nodding off so much as he may be experiencing an event that causes him to close his eyes, bow his head and breathe heavily. Based on his reaction he may briefly lose consciousness, but other times he’s able to continue speaking, but slurs his words."

Putin has the foot thing going. He is gripping the chair or table. Those things are concerning.

Biden is 10x to 100x more concerning. Having a pulse or being able to breathe is a matter or being alive or dead within 2 to 6 minutes. Not everyone has a whole 6 minutes. Some of us have less.

When you chest heaves like Biden's did, one of two things are happening. You just sprinted and you O2 demand went way up. Or you have a serious medical condition that makes cancer or Parkinson's look like a day in the park.

Was Biden a printer in high school or college track and field? Was he reliving the good ole days?

Reads the chart

looks again

.....

ok

...

so what you are saying is we can access a market that is roughly the same size as the US or Europe by economic opportunity (theoretically, if we were to compare two equal systems).. then you add a bit of "look growth" to it.. then you say "ok not that much growth but still tons"

and you ignore the obvious

1. Falling behind: China and Russia are bye, bye demographically speaking - this alone will slow down their economies quite a bit. You compared an apple with an orange. China's aging hasn't fully set in yet, and add the brain drain on top.. uhhhhhh Have you noticed that immigration into China is almost zero? And academics/bussiness men still get the hell out. Why?

Their actions speak for themselves.

2. Falling behind continued: Most of the leading Chips are designed in the US and manufactured(!) in Taiwan. The lower to mid level chips are supplied at higher volumes from China.

3. Research: Brain drain

4. Innovation: Not being able to speak your mind slows you down, and more importantly risks the failure of any project as everyone(!) needs to be challengeable. The west succeeds here still. China catching up though - but in politics and military not so much. There, if you speak out you disappear . Means people will not dare bring info to Xi, and we see mad actions amazing. Just with Hitler. Just with Stalin. Xi spent years killing of those around him. He is isolated worse than Putin it is speculated in terms of inner circle, people who can talk to him openly.

.. and on and on. Boring
US will remain super power, also due to geography, shared values across globe etc.. you all may think uuhh china or india.. but let the immigration record speak - no one wants to go there, their culture ain't that hot :P

The real shame is that the GOOD people in America, Russia, China, Iran, India...the ones who make up the "silent majority" and have no control over these politicians and oligarchs behavior which detriments them are the ones who will suffer. All we can do is watch these "leaders" exploit us like cattle. It is not about race or nationality or religion, it is if we GOOD people everywhere across all borders will have enough to eat.

You should be asking yourselves why did our so-called leaders destroy America from within and for years. In 1971 the hijacking went full stream. H W Bush and his CIA spooks have been orchestrating large events to transform America's foreign policies while all the congressmen and women sold out to AIPAC and lobbyists to deindustrialize the US while sending corporate jobs overseas for cheap slave labor. Wait for 2030 when nothing will make sense and a total technocrats order is running in full and it's far too late to whine about news headlines. They openly admit to a dystopia future for all. Meanwhile the US has the most suicides, homeless, and child shooters ever...most depressed children. Society is not woke, it's broke. You think this is by accident? The earth is polluted and dying, storms are raging, wars are expanding and chaos paints the news every week. Whose going to win what in this mess..

Agents of many countries are studying that film and drawing the appropriate conclusions.

They are studying how long it takes a group or clusterfuck to make a decision.

they are studying how long a decision takes when you have to lay a game of telephone from the White House to somewhere in DC to Martha's Vinyard or Hawaii and back.

I expect WNU to defend Russia to some degree. It is natural.

My foreign-born spouse defends their in the news country. They do not however carte blanche or unstintingly defend the government (or defend the government at all). They are pretty much down on government like some people are down on organized religion.

WNU is intelligent as are most of his readers. So I hate when he conflates Russian speakers with ethnic Russian. It is underhanded and it is lying.

Russia tried to take over Crimea in 1994. Since it is before NATO expansion, it proves that Russia wants Crimea badly and that NATO expansion is an excuse.

So 6:37 you -posted the usual Lapides bullshit at 5:40? Why not own it?

Trump asked Raffenberger to look for votes in red counties in Georgia. It was anomalous that a number of red counties voted for a Republican ticket except for Trump. It does not pass the smell test. trump had every right to ask Raffenberger to look into it.

But as we know Raffenberger is as Republican as Rosenstein #3 at DoJ under the coward Sessions.

Trump did not say manufacture votes. He asked Raffenberger to find them. There is a difference. If find and manufacture meant the same thing we would not need 2 different words now would we?

I do not expect an honest or cogent replay from you. You have shown you trollish nature way too often in the past.
