US unilateralism has wrecked the chances of peace in the Middle East, Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, told a crisis Brics meeting on Gaza as he attempted to woo leaders of the global south.

On Aug. 24, 2023, BRICS announced that it would formally accept six new members at the start of 2024: Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, Argentina, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

BRICS Summit Begins. Chinese President Xi Arrives In South Africa. President Putin Remians In Moscow

Zero Hedge: Xi Arrives In South Africa With A Message Urging BRICS To Become Geopolitical Rival To G7

Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in South Africa for the 15th BRICS summit, running from August 22-24, where he was greeted in Johannesburg by President Cyril Ramaphosa, who is hosting the summit in the executive capital of Pretoria.

It is merely the Chinese leader's second trip abroad this year, after in March he met his "dear friend" President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

Putin will be absent for the BRICS meeting after South Africa signaled it was being pressured to enforce the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) which would require the government to arrest the Russian leader.

The host nation announced earlier on Wednesday that the Russian leader will not attend the high-profile event in person. Putin’s contribution to the gathering next month will be “comprehensive” despite its remote nature, Peskov told the Russian media on Wednesday.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will travel to Johannesburg in person to serve as Moscow’s representative, he added, confirming a previous statement by the South African government.

BRICS Planning To Introduce A New Gold-Backed Reserve Currency At The August Summit

QTR’s Fringe Finance: The Gold Standard Is Back: BRICS To Intro Gold-Backed Reserve Currency

"...it could be, first and foremost, a major challenge to the US dollar's hegemony..."

Remember back when the Russia/Ukraine war had just started, and I predicted that Russia and China would launch their own gold backed currency?

At the time, this idea sounded completely foreign, and I was ridiculed for bringing it up. Today, it just become reality. 41+ countries look like they could be returning to a gold standard.

WNU Editor: 41 countries have already applied for BRICS-membership. I predict this announcement will result in even more countries joining.

The US dollar will still be the world's reserve currency. But this BRICS announcement that they are going to introduce a new gold-backed reserve currency next month is just another sign on that the world is becoming multi-polar, and the dominant role of the U.S. in international affairs is coming to an end.

RT: Macron is ‘inappropriate’ for BRICS – Moscow

There should be no place for the French president at the bloc’s upcoming summit, a senior diplomat has argued

French President Emmanuel Macron’s attendance at a meeting of BRICS leaders would be “inappropriate,” considering his government’s stance against Moscow, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has said.

Paris confirmed this week that Macron is seeking an invitation to the bloc’s summit in South Africa in August.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Ryabkov explained that Russia’s opposition to Macron’s potential appearance was based on France’s efforts to isolate Moscow and its support for NATO’s goal of inflicting a “strategic defeat” on Russia in the Ukraine conflict.

We are not hiding this position and have informed our South African colleagues about it,” Ryabkov said, as cited by Interfax. “We expect our point of view to be fully taken into account.”

Reuters: BRICS meet with 'friends' seeking closer ties amid push to expand bloc

CAPE TOWN, June 2 (Reuters) - Senior officials from more than a dozen countries, including Saudi Arabia and Iran, were in talks on forging closer links with the BRICS bloc of major emerging economies on Friday as it met to deepen ties and position itself as a counterweight to the West.

BRICS, which now consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, is considering expanding its membership, and a growing number of countries have expressed interest in joining.

Once viewed as a loose association of disparate emerging economies, BRICS has in recent years taken more concrete shape, driven initially by China and, since the start of the Ukraine war in February 2022, with added impetus from Russia.

In remarks opening Friday's discussions, host South Africa's Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor spoke of the bloc as a champion of the developing world, which she said was abandoned by wealthy states and global institutions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

South Africa Grants Putin Diplomatic Immunity To Attend The BRICS Summit In August

The Guardian: South Africa grants Putin and Brics leaders diplomatic immunity for summit

ICC warrant for Russian president’s arrest issued in March over alleged war crimes in Ukraine

South Africa has issued blanket diplomatic immunity to all leaders attending an August summit, meaning Vladimir Putin might be able to travel to Johannesburg and not fear the country acting on an international criminal court warrant for his arrest.

South African officials insisted the broad offer of immunity, issued in a government gazette, may not trump the ICC arrest warrant. As an ICC member, South Africa would be under pressure, and possibly under a legal requirement, to arrest Putin. The court issued a warrant for his arrest in March over the alleged forcible deportation of children from Ukraine to Russia.

IMF Says BRICS Set To Surpass G7 In Economic Growth

The Cradle:
BRICS set to surpass G7 in economic growth

The latest IMF figures reveal that BRICS nations will contribute 32.1 percent to global growth, compared to the G7's 29.9 percent.

The member states of the BRICS group, which include Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, are expected to surpass the US-led G7 states in economic growth expectations, according to a Bloomberg report.

Bloomberg estimates that the BRICS nations will contribute 32.1 percent of global growth, compared to the G7’s 29.9 percent, based on the most recent IMF figures.

According to the Bloomberg analysis, the G7 and BRICS nations each contributed equally to global economic growth in 2020. The western-led bloc’s performance, however, has since declined. The G7 is expected to make up just 27.8 percent of the global economy by 2028, while BRICS will make up 35 percent.

“In total, 75 percent of global growth is expected to be concentrated in 20 countries and over half in the top four: China, India, the US, and Indonesia. While Group of Seven countries will comprise a smaller share, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and France are seen among the top 10 contributors,” Bloomberg reports.

BRICS Nations Working On Developing A “New Currency”

The Cradle: BRICS nations working on ‘fundamentally new currency’: Russian official

The US dollar's hegemony in international markets continues to deteriorate partly due to the Global South's refusal to enforce western sanctions against Russia

The Deputy Chairman of Russia’s State Duma, Alexander Babakov, said on 30 March that the BRICS bloc of emerging economies – Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa – is working on developing a “new currency” that will be presented at the organization’s upcoming summit in Durban.

“The transition to settlements in national currencies is the first step. The next one is to provide the circulation of digital or any other form of a fundamentally new currency in the nearest future. I think that at the BRICS [leaders’ summit], the readiness to realize this project will be announced, such works are underway,” Babakov said on the sidelines of the Russian-Indian Strategic Partnership for Development and Growth Business Forum.

Saudi Arabia has expressed its interest in joining the Brics bloc. This was revealed by President Cyril Ramaphosa during his two-day state visit to the kingdom on Sunday.

WNU Editor: Saudi Crown Prince Salman personally invited the South African President. And unlike President Biden's visit to Saudi Arabia this summer, the Saudis pulled out all the "bells and whistles" for the South African President during his two day state visit to Saudi Arabia.

A personal observation.

If Russia, a founding member of BRICs, was losing in Ukraine would Saudi Arabia want to join BRICs? Would Turkish President Erdogan want to be a part of Russia's natural gas hub? .... In these situations I always wonder. What do they know that we do not?

Here is an easy prediction. When the Russia - Ukraine war is over, there will be a rush of many non-Western countries to join BRICs. And a decade or two after that, BRICs will be the world's dominant economic bloc, not the G7.

The president of the BRICS International Forum expects Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia to join the group "very soon". In an interview with Russia's Izvestia, Purnima Anand said that China, Russia and India discussed this issue during the 14th BRICS Summit, which was held online last month.

"All these countries have shown an interest in joining and are preparing to apply for membership. I think this is a good step, because expansion is always perceived positively; this will clearly increase the influence of BRICS in the world," explained Anand. "I hope that the accession of countries to BRICS will happen very quickly, because now all representatives of the core of the association are interested in expanding the organisation, so it will be very soon."

She stressed that the accession of Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Turkey may not take place at the same time.

Russia's Proposal That Oil Contracts Be Traded Without Using The US Dollar Was The Bombshell At This Year's BRICS Summit

Pepe Escobar, Asia Times: The real BRICS bombshell

Putin reveals 'fair multipolar world' concept in which oil contracts could bypass the US dollar and be traded with oil, yuan and gold.

The annual BRICS summit in Xiamen – where President Xi Jinping was once mayor – could not intervene in a more incandescent geopolitical context.

Once again, it’s essential to keep in mind that the current core of BRICS is “RC”; the Russia-China strategic partnership. So in the Korean peninsula chessboard, RC context – with both nations sharing borders with the DPRK – is primordial.

Beijing has imposed a definitive veto on war – of which the Pentagon is very much aware.

Pyongyang’s sixth nuclear test, although planned way in advance, happened only three days after two nuclear-capable US B-1B strategic bombers conducted their own “test” alongside four F-35Bs and a few Japanese F-15s.

WNU Editor: You have to scroll down in the above post to get to the story .... but I agree with this author's analysis .... Russia/China/Iran/etc. are now positioned to start trading oil contracts without using the U.S. dollar. And how will they do it .... by using the new triad of oil, yuan and gold to guarantee their contracts. What does this mean .... in short .... the days of the U.S. currency being the reserve currency of the world is slowly coming to an end.

BRICS Leaders Are Expressing Their Concerns That Pakistan Is Supporting Militant Groups

DW: China's 'betrayal' - BRICS leaders slam Pakistan-based jihadi groups

The BRICS nations have expressed concern about Pakistan-based militant groups like LeT and the Haqqani Network. It is a diplomatic defeat for Islamabad, which heavily depends on Beijing's support amid a global isolation.

Pakistan's foreign policy in a nutshell: As long as China is backing us, we don't have to worry about the United States or the rest of the world. And that was exactly the official reaction after US President Donald Trump announced his Afghanistan policy last month, criticizing safe havens for Islamist terrorists on Pakistani soil.

While the Islamic country's politicians and government officials refuted Trump's claims that Pakistan was supporting militant groups near its border with Afghanistan, they heaved a sigh of relief when Chinese officials came to their support against Trump.
