Axios: Scoop: White House has discussed U.S. military response if Hezbollah attacks Israel
The White House has been discussing the possibility of using military force if Hezbollah joins the war in Gaza and attacks Israel with its huge arsenal of rockets, three U.S. officials and one Israeli official with knowledge of the situation tell Axios.
Why it matters: Lebanon-based Hezbollah joining the war would dramatically escalate the Middle East's worst conflict in decades — raising the likelihood of mass civilian casualties in Israel and Lebanon and possibly drawing in the U.S.
* The Israeli military — now focused mostly on Gaza — would have a significantly more difficult time fighting on two fronts simultaneously while missiles rain down on its bases and Israel's population centers.

WNU Editor: In the above video you can see U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin boasting that the US has the 'combat capability to deter' Hezbollah in Lebanon from attacking Israel. He is not saying directly that the US military will get involved in such a war, but the message is clear, the US military will intervene.

Such a US intervention will be a disaster. The US will be fighting against a foe that has a lot of experience fighting in the Syrian war, but it will also be flooded with "Iranian volunteers" and sophisticated weapons from Russia to shoot down US war planes.
And then there will be the economic costs.
I can see the Straits of Hormuz being shut down (with no objection from Saudi Arabia and the Persian Gulf states), and oil at over $200/barrel.
Update: Israel is certainly convinced that the US will intervene militarily if Hezbollah launches an attack .... Israeli official predicts US 'involvement' if Iran, Hezbollah join fighting with Hamas (FOX News).

2 or 3 years ago hezbollah was complaining to Iran about the cost of the war in lives. Hezbollah lost 1,000 or so fighters.

The experience of those 1,000 fighter died with them. Not all experience was lost. Some was passed on before they died and others lived and have passed on their experience.
Fighting ISIs and other where your side has air and artillery superiority is different than fighting a major war. People in the US recognize this. The experience of fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq against insurgents is not the same as fighting against RUSSIA or China.
To summarize the Us gained a lot of experience in fighting brush wars, but that does not translate 100% to peer or peer wars.
The Brits had 20 to 40 years experience fight small colonial wars. So you can say it was a veteran army. WW1 was fucking shock to them. Oh and when the Brits fought in the colonies during WW1, their ass got handed to them for 4 years over and over and over.
When or if Hezbollah engage Israel and the Us heavy the Sunni, Christian and Druze will look for opportunity. If Hezbollah gets beat down, those 3 will dogpile them.

Tell me one military operation in the Middle East where the USA used Israeli land or Airspace as a jump off point for combat or even evacuation operations? You cannot, because there is none.

When USA established the Combatant Command system, they intentionally put Israeli in EUCOM instead of CENTCOM. The reasons for that are self explanatory. Israel is a pain in the side.
