Fort Hood Rocked By Prostitution Scandal

Fort Hood Sexual Assault Prevention Officer Ran On-Base Prostitution Ring: Witness -- New York Daily News

Sgt. 1st Class Gregory McQueen is accused of targeting female soldiers with financial woes to recruit into his ring. He pimped out the women to high ranking officers who paid for sex, one woman testified Tuesday.

A cash-strapped female soldier told a Fort Hood hearing board Tuesday about how a noncommissioned sexual assault prevention officer on base forced her into a prostitution ring so she could buy groceries for her child.

The private testified against Sgt. 1st Class Gregory McQueen during a proceeding similar to a grand jury hearing. McQueen could face some 21 criminal charges if he is slapped with a military court-martial.

"Basically, it was having sex with higher ranking officers for money," the woman told the board, the Killeen Daily Herald reported.

President Obama Honors The Fallen At Fort Hood Shooting

Obama Eulogizes Fort Hood Victims -- Voice of America

U.S. President Barack Obama returned to the Fort Hood Army base in Texas for the second time in five years Wednesday to attend a memorial service for victims of another shooting.

Standing before a crowd that included family members, friends and colleagues of the people who died or suffered wounds one week ago, President Obama said last week's shooting tears at wounds yet to heal from the 2009 attack carried out by Major Nidal Hasan at Fort Hood, in which 13 people were killed. Hasan was sentenced to death last year.

Fort Hood Officials Give Detailed Account On Last Week's Shooting

Fort Hood Shooter 'Wanted A Transfer Because He Was Being Bullied By Other Soldiers' Claims Official -- Daily Mail

* Spc. Lopez felt some people in his unit at Fort Hood were not treating him well, an official has said
* Another official claimed that Lopez had asked for a transfer from Texas because of this
* Lopez killed three people and injured 16 before taking his own life on Wednesday
* The shooting spree lasted eight-minutes, covered a two city block area and involved 35-bullets
* Lopez, a 34-year-old married father who was battling mental illness, had served in Iraq but did he did not have any recorded combat experience

Fort Hood shooter Spc. Ivan Lopez wanted to transfer units because he was being bullied, claims a senior US official working with the investigation.

In an effort to discover why Lopez opened fire on his fellow soldiers on Wednesday, killing three before turning the gun on himself, the Army is examining the possibility he snapped after being tormented by colleagues.

The Army is not only looking into his mental health history, but how he had settled with his fellow soldiers with the 154 Transportation Company at the Texas base after arriving in February.

Fort Hood

What Has Happened To The Heroes Of The 2009 Fort Hood Shooting?

Jason Reed/Reuters

How The Army Betrayed The Hero Of Fort Hood -- Michael Daly, Daily Beast

Kimberly Munley was shot three times taking down Nidal Hasan in 2009. Then she got laid off. Yet she’s never stopped fighting for the victims the military ‘betrayed’ in that shooting.

Just as in the last mass shooting at Fort Hood, the massacre on Wednesday ended when the gunman was confronted by a very brave policewoman.

“It was clearly heroic what she did at that moment in time,” Lt. Gen. Mark Milley said of the officer in the more recent horror.

Hopefully, the still-unidentified hero in this week’s attack will be treated better than Fort Hood Police Sgt. Kimberly Munley was after the massacre in 2009 in which she was shot three times and flatlined twice at the hospital.

The Three Victims Of The Fort Hood Shooting Have Been Named

Three Victims Of Fort Hood Rampage Named By Family, Friends -- Reuters

(Reuters) - The three people killed in a shooting rampage at Fort Hood in Texas were all male soldiers in their 30s, friends and family said, as the military looked for a motive behind the second mass shooting in five years at the massive Army base.

Ivan Lopez, a 34-year-old soldier battling mental illness, is suspected of killing the three and wounding 16 others with a recently purchased pistol before turning the gun on himself at Fort Hood on Wednesday.

Among the victims was Army Sergeant Timothy Owens, 37, a recently married native of Effingham, Illinois, who was shot in the chest at close range, his mother-in-law told the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper.

Soldier: Fort Hood Is 'A Black Hole'

Ft. Hood Soldier To CNN: ‘People In Jail Have A Better Life’ Than Us -- Mediate

An unnamed Ft. Hood solider, speaking to CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin, said that she did not blame the man accused of shooting dozens at the base on Tuesday night for the actions he took. She said that Ft. Hood is a “black hole,” that the soldiers stationed there do not make enough money to maintain their sanity, and that the base’s quality of life is not as good as that of inmates in American prisons.

“It’s a pretty chaotic state,” the unnamed solider said, confessing that Ft. Hood was really not “the great place” the personnel who staff the facility say that it is.

“This place is definitely a black hole,” the solider continued. “Until we have people sit up and say, ‘Hey, there needs to be change here,’ we’re going to continue to have incidents.”

My Comment: This Fort Hood soldier speaks candidly about what the reality of living on the Texas military base is like. And while a part of me likes to believe that this is not true .... listening to her voice has convinced me that it probably is. To say that this video is disturbing is an understatement.

A Look At The Fort Hood Shooter

Ivan Lopez: Truck Driver. Dad. Drummer. Portrait Emerges After Fort Hood Attack. -- Patrik Jonsson, Christian Science Monitor

Spc. Ivan Lopez, who authorities say killed three others and himself Wednesday at Fort Hood in Texas, reportedly was grappling with depression and anxiety. Authorities hint at a precipitating on-base event.

Emerging information about Army Spc. Ivan Lopez, who killed three people and injured 16, some critically, at Fort Hood on Wednesday, paint a picture of a troubled, perhaps injured soldier who was seeking treatment for mental problems before his transfer two months ago to the Texas Army base.

The Iraq war veteran, who drove a truck for his unit, is at the center of an investigation into the third major attack by a service member on his own comrades in five years. When a Fort Hood police officer drew her gun to confront Lopez during a barrage that involved two buildings at the base, he turned his .45 caliber handgun on himself, officials say.

Military officials, the FBI, and civilian police are now delving into Lopez’s past in search of a possible motive.

Fort Hood Shooting -- News Updates April 3, 2014

'He Was Not A Wounded Warrior': Fort Hood Shooter Was Not Injured In Action But WAS Mentally Ill, Says Army Chief After Massacre At Base Leaves Four Dead And 16 Injured -- Daily Mail

* Lt Gen. Mark A. Milley confirmed shots rang out at the Killeen, Texas, base at 4pm local time and that military police responded within 15 minutes
* Milley said the shooter, identified earlier as Ivan Lopez, 34, entered one building and fired shots at individuals then returned to a vehicle before entering a second building to fire more shots
* He turned his .45 caliber Smith & Wesson pistol on himself after a heroic female military police officer approached and engaged him, Milley said
* Milley confirmed the married shooter had served in Iraq for four months in 2011, and was being treated for depression and anxiety
* Specialist Lopez previously served in Puerto Rico Army National Guard
* He was also in the process of being assessed for post traumatic stress disorder, though Milley insisted he had not yet been officially diagnosed

A soldier who shot dead three people and injured 16 others before turning the gun on himself at the Fort Hood military base was 'not a wounded warrior' but was being treated for mental illness, a U.S. Army chief has said.

The shooter, identified as Specialist Ivan Lopez, opened fire with a pistol at a medical building at 4pm on Wednesday at the base where 13 people were killed in a massacre in 2009.

The 34-year-old, who had suspected post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), then drove to another part of the base and fired shots from the vehicle, said base commander Lt General Mark Milley.

He turned his weapon, a .45 caliber Smith & Wesson semi-automatic pistol, on himself after a heroic female military police officer pulled her gun and approached him around 15 minutes after the first shots were fired, Milley said.

Shooting Incident At Fort Hood. Four Dead Including Gunman. 14 Wounded

4 Dead, Including Shooter, At Fort Hood -- CNN

(CNN) -- Three people were killed and 16 injured Wednesday when a shooter opened fire at Fort Hood, the sprawling Army post in Texas still on edge after a mass shooting there left 13 dead in 2009, officials said.

The gunman also died. He was engaged by military police before he fatally shot himself in the head, said the Army post's commander, Lt. Gen. Mark A. Milley.

The suspect, a soldier who had served in Iraq, "had behavioral health and mental health" issues, Milley told reporters late Wednesday.

The general said there was no known motive for the shooting.

Female Fort Hood Soldiers Recruited For Prostitution Ring, Trial Hears -- The Guardian

Seventeen-year veteran accused of using service set up by co-ordinator of base's sex assault and harassment prevention program.

Female soldiers at Fort Hood testified Monday that they were recruited for a prostitution ring set up by a sergeant involved in the sexual assault and harassment program at the Central Texas post.

The testimony came as the court-martial began for another Fort Hood soldier accused of using the service, which Army prosecutors said preyed upon young, cash-strapped female soldiers at Fort Hood.

Master Sergeant Brad Grimes is a 17-year Army veteran who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Army prosecutors said in the military court on Monday that Grimes participated in the prostitution ring set up by another Fort Hood sergeant not yet charged but still under Army investigation, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

Have The Fort Hood Victims Been Betrayed?

Fort Hood Hero Says President Obama 'Betrayed' Her, Other Victims -- ABC News

Three years after the White House arranged a hero's welcome at the State of the Union address for the Fort Hood police sergeant and her partner who stopped the deadly shooting there, Kimberly Munley says President Obama broke the promise he made to her that the victims would be well taken care of.

"Betrayed is a good word," former Sgt. Munley told ABC News in a tearful interview to be broadcast tonight on "World News with Diane Sawyer" and "Nightline."

"Not to the least little bit have the victims been taken care of," she said. "In fact they've been neglected."

There was no immediate comment from the White House about Munley's allegations.

Fort Hood Shooting Victims Sue Government To Have Massacre Labeled As A Terrorist Attack

Fort Hood Shooting Victims Sue Government, Accused Shooter -- Reuters

(Reuters) - Families and victims of a mass shooting in 2009 at the Fort Hood military base in Texas filed a wrongful death suit on Monday against the U.S. government, the accused gunman and the estate of an alleged al Qaeda leader.

The 148 plaintiffs are seeking damages and a ruling that the rampage was a terrorist attack. The finding would clear the way for them to receive benefits.

Major Nidal Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, faces 13 charges of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder for the November 5, 2009, attack on soldiers preparing to deploy to Iraq.

Survivors have expressed frustration about repeated delays over the past three years in bringing Hasan to trial. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces indefinitely postponed Hasan's court-martial last month pending further review.

Fort Hood Massacre Trial Delayed Because Of A Beard

Maj. Nidal Hasan, accused of killing 13 people at Fort Hood in 2009

Some Fort Hood Survivors Find Hasan’s Beard A Mockery -- Stars and Stripes

WASHINGTON — That something as banal as facial hair is stalling justice in the Fort Hood shooting case is frustrating some of the families of the victims.

Legal wrangling kept the court-martial against Maj. Nidal Hasan from going forward for more than 2 1/2 years. Then late this summer, victims and their families thought they were finally going to see the Army psychiatrist stand trial for allegedly shooting more than four dozen people on Nov. 5, 2009, at the Texas base.

But Hasan’s newly grown beard has set off yet another set of delays while the courts sorts out whether the judge can legally order him to shave.

My Comment: After three long years this case is now finally at trial .... and it is delayed because of 'facial hair'. Sighhhh .... such is the legal system in America. My sympathies are for the victims who survived who must now testify in court .... this wait must be putting an extraordinary amount of pressure on them because I am sure that they want this trial and process to be over so that they themselves can move on.
