A TikTok Data Center's Demand For Electricity Is Preventing An Ammunition Arms Maker In Norway To Produce More Shells

Business Insider: Weapons firm says it can't meet soaring demand for artillery shells because a TikTok data center is eating all the electricity 

* An arms manufacturer said that TikTok's data center is using all the electricity in the region. 

* As a result, the company said that it cannot keep up with the surging demand for artillery rounds. 

* The CEO told the FT that the company's growth is being "challenged by the storage of cat videos." 

A Norwegian arms manufacturer said that a TikTok data center is eating all the electricity in the region, meaning that the company cannot keep up with the surging global demand for ammunition. 

Experts are increasingly commenting on the massive demands of big tech companies, and how energy usage by their data centers is causing issues for other industries.

Jordan Bans TikTok Claiming The App Was 'Inciting Violence And Disorder' Over High Fuel Prices

 

Insider: Jordan bans TikTok claiming that app was 'inciting violence and disorder' after a police officer was killed in protests over high fuel prices 

* Jordan issued a "temporary ban" on TikTok after videos of protests and unrest were shared, per the Associated Press. 

* A high-ranking police officer in the Jordan city of Maan was killed amid protests last week, per the AP. 

* Truck drivers are striking and protesting high fuel prices across the country and region, the AP reported. 

The Jordan government announced a "temporary ban" on TikTok, claiming the app failed to "deal with publications inciting violence and disorder," according to the Associated Press.  

The announcement on Friday came after a high-ranking police officer was killed amid protests over high fuel prices in the city of Maan. 

The city's deputy police director, Abdul Razzaq Abdel Hafez Al Dalabeh, was shot and killed on Thursday, per the Associated Press.

US Senate Passes Bill To Ban TikTok App From Government Devices

 

Boston Globe: Senate passes bill to ban TikTok on US government-issued devices 

WASHINGTON — The Senate passed a bill late Wednesday banning federal employees from using TikTok on government devices, marking the latest attempt by Republicans to clamp down on the popular, Chinese-owned video-sharing app, and suggesting the existence of bipartisan congressional support to regulate it further. 

Senator Josh Hawley, Republican of Missouri, who introduced the bill, said in a Thursday statement that the ban would prohibit individuals from downloading or using the app on devices issued by the federal government, with an exception for those working in law enforcement or national security.

Russia's Wagnar Group's TikTok Videos Have Been Viewed More Than A Billion Times

BBC: Russian mercenary videos 'top 1bn views' on TikTok 

TikTok is hosting dozens of videos that glorify violence by Russia's Wagner Group of mercenaries and they have been viewed more than a billion times, according to a new report. 

Wagner has sent mercenaries into Ukraine in big numbers. US-based NewsGuard, which focuses on online misinformation, says some of the videos appear to show the execution of a former Russian mercenary. TikTok has said it will act against any content violating its policies. 

NewsGuard said it had identified 160 videos on the short-video platform that "allude to, show, or glorify acts of violence" by the mercenary group, founded by Yevgeny Prigozhin, a close ally of President Vladimir Putin.
