ABC News: Navy searches N. Arabian Sea for sailor missing from aircraft carrier USS Nimitz

Man overboard was called after the sailor wasn't located aboard the carrier.

The Navy is searching the North Arabian Sea for a missing sailor from the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz.

Man overboard was called after the sailor was not located during a search aboard the carrier, according to a Navy spokesperson.

"The aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) and guided-missile cruiser USS Princeton (CG 59) are currently conducting search and rescue operations in the North Arabian Sea following reports of a missing U.S. Navy Sailor, Sept. 6," according to a statement from the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet.

Petraeus Spends Thanksgiving On The Nimitz -- Sign On San Diego

Commander celebrates 'awesome' holiday with San Diego-based crew

GULF OF OMAN — Gen. David Petraeus, the U.S. commander overseeing the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, boarded the aircraft carrier Nimitz this morning to celebrate Thanksgiving with 4,500 sailors who left San Diego in July for a mission in the Middle East.

The visit, which The San Diego Union-Tribune was invited to cover as the sole media representative, comes as President Barack Obama prepares to tell the nation Tuesday that he is sending more troops to Afghanistan and revising U.S. strategy there.
