CNN: Islamic Jihad leader killed in Israeli air strike

Jerusalem (CNN)A senior commander of Gaza Strip militant group Islamic Jihad has been killed in an Israeli air strike, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Prime Minister's Office said in a statement Tuesday.

And, in Damascus, Syria says another Israeli air strike killed at least two people including the son of Islamic Jihad leader, Akram al-Ajouri.

The moves clearly ignite tension along the Israel-Gaza border. Baha Abu al-Ata was killed in the overnight strike on a house in Shajaiyah, in Gaza City. His wife Asma Abu Al-Ata was also killed, while seven others -- including children -- were injured, Palestinian Ministry of Health officials said.

Israel Thwarts Islamic Jihad Attack On Israeli Navy Boats Off Gaza

Jerusalem Post: Israel thwarts major Islamic Jihad missile attack against naval vessels

The Shin Bet and IDF foiled the plot, which would use one boat as a decoy and two others to attack and board an Israeli navy vessel in order to kill and capture the sailors.

Security forces thwarted a potential Palestinian attack by Islamic Jihad in Gaza against Israeli naval forces that included a plan to kidnap IDF sailors, as released for publication on Wednesday.

The Secret Service (Shin Bet) published information about the alleged terror plot during the first out of six weeks of the Great March of Return, a series of popular Gaza protests. Since last Friday, thousands of Palestinians in the Palestinian enclave have gathered by the Israeli border fence, with some attempting to break through it.

Islamic Jihad Movement Chief to Hold Talks With Iranian Officials Over Regional Security -- RIA Novosti

MOSCOW, October 15 (RIA Novosti) - Islamic Jihad Movement of Palestine Secretary General Ramazan Abdullah will meet Iranian officials in Tehran on Wednesday to discuss regional security concerns, the FARS news agency has reported.

Abdullah will hold talks with Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani, and Member of Iran's Expediency Council Saeed Jalili.

The participants are expected to focus on the Palestinian issue and the Iran’s proposal on holding a referendum in Palestine to establish an independent state.

Rockets Hit Israel, Which Says Truce Broken

JERUSALEM - Police say two Palestinian rockets hit southern Israel and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's office says the cease-fire that took effect last week has been broken.

A small Palestinian militant group in the Gaza Strip says it carried out the attack to avenge an Israeli military raid that killed one of its members in the West Bank early Tuesday.

The West Bank is not formally part of the truce. But Islamic Jihad says it "cannot keep its hands tied" when its "brothers" in the West Bank are being targeted.
