Middle East Monitor: Israel strikes Hezbollah posts in Lebanon after firing at troops

Israeli aircraft struck posts belonging to the Lebanese Shia group Hezbollah early on Wednesday after shots were fired from Lebanon towards its troops, Israel’s military said.

No Israeli troops were wounded in the firing, the military said. Soldiers deployed illumination flares, smoke shells, and live fire after the shots from the Lebanese side of the frontier, it said.

“In response, overnight, IDF attack helicopters and aircraft struck observation posts belonging to the Hezbollah terror organization in the border area,” the military said in a statement, referring to the Israel Defense Forces.

Top U.S. General In The Middle East: 'It Would Be A Great Mistake For Hezbollah To Wage War Against Israel'

CENTCOM Gen. Kenneth McKenzie

Jerusalem Post: CENTCOM chief: A war with Israel would not end well for Hezbollah

“I think it would be a great mistake for Hezbollah to try to carry out operations against Israel. I can’t see that having a good ending.”

CENTCOM head Gen. Kenneth McKenzie said it would be a great mistake for Hezbollah to try to carry out operations against Israel.

“I can’t see that having a good ending,” he said at a briefing during a major trip to the Middle East this week. McKenzie has visited Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar and Kuwait. The US general also acknowledged continuing tensions in Syria and with Iran across the region.

This is McKenzie’s first trip to the region since February. He visited Israel in November last year during the rising tensions between the US and Iran. Since February, US forces in Iraq have faced repeated rocket attacks by Iranian-backed groups, and the US retaliated with airstrikes in March. McKenzie has helped bring air defense to protect those troops in Iraq and has called the situation with Iran “contested deterrence,” meaning that the Islamic Republic is deterred from further major attacks, but harassment by Iranian-backed groups continues.

Failed Israeli Drone Strike On Top Hezbollah Official Caught In Rare Video

Zero Hedge: Watch: Failed Israeli Drone Strike On Top Hezbollah Official Caught In Rare Video

Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have once again ramped up operations along the southern Lebanese border at a moment Hezbollah leadership has declared it is "fully prepared for war with Israel".

The latest escalation came Wednesday when an Israeli drone targeted a car full of Hezbollah operatives just inside Syria near the border with Lebanon. The Shia resistance organization said all escaped alive and without injury in what's become an increasingly common IDF tactic - assassination attempt by drone.

However, it's extremely rare that such an assassination attempt be caught on video. But on Friday CCTV footage emerged capturing the moment of the strike, appearing in Arabic and Israeli media.

Israeli Military Says Attempt To Down Its Drone Over Lebanon By Hezbollah ‘Failed’

Anti-aircraft missile fired at an Israeli drone

Reuters: Israeli military says attempt to down one of its drones over Lebanon failed

Israel's military said an anti-aircraft missile was fired from Lebanon at one of its drones on Thursday but the aircraft was not hit.

Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed group that fought Israel to a standstill in a 2006 war, fired at a drone over south Lebanon, forcing it to leave, Lebanon's al-Manar TV reported.

Another channel, al-Mayadeen TV, had earlier reported that an Israeli drone was brought down near the town of Nabatiyeh in southern Lebanon.

Hezbollah had vowed in August to shoot down Israeli drones in Lebanese airspace. That followed a suspected Israeli drone strike on a Hezbollah-linked facility in Beirut.

Hezbollah Says It Has Shot Down An 'Israeli Drone' At The Lebanon Border

Arab News/Reuters: Lebanon’s Hezbollah shoots down Israeli drone

BEIRUT: Iran-backed Hezbollah said it downed an Israeli drone in southern Lebanon early on Monday, a week after the group’s leader said it would shoot down Israeli drones in Lebanese airspace.

The drone is now in Hezbollah’s possession, the group said in a statement.

An Israeli military statement said one of its drones “fell inside southern Lebanon during routine operations.” It did not say why the drone crashed, but said “there is no concern information could be taken from it.” An Israeli military spokeswoman said it was a “simple drone” without elaborating.

Israel claims injuries reported by Hezbollah from Sunday's attack were staged

A Hezbollah attack on an Israeli military vehicle on Sunday has caused confusion as Israel claimed that the reported injuries sustained by their forces were staged.

On Sunday, Hezbollah fired two or three anti-tank missiles at a battalion headquarters and a military ambulance, hitting both.

After the attack, the Iran-backed group said there were “dead and wounded” soldiers and Lebanese media announced several Israeli soldiers were injured and flown by helicopter to Haifa’s Rambam hospital.

The Israeli army denied the reports, claiming that the vehicle had been empty at the time and the casualties were staged with fake blood and bandages.

The supposedly wounded soldiers were released without receiving any medical care, local reports said.

The claims were met with scepticism in Lebanon.

Hezbollah Leader Nasrallah Vows Retaliation After Israeli Airstrikes This Weekend

CNN: Hezbollah vows retaliation after Israel claims responsibility for airstrikes near Damascus

Jerusalem (CNN)The leader of Hezbollah has vowed to shoot down any Israeli drones that enter into Lebanese airspace, after two drones reportedly crashed in Beirut, Sunday.

Hassan Nasrallah, the head of the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group, said that two Israeli drones crashed in the Hezbollah-dominated southern suburbs of Beirut, with one exploding.

Making reference to the same alleged incident, Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri had earlier accused Israel of an attack on Lebanese sovereignty.

The Israeli army has refused to comment on reports of the two drones.

In his address to supporters Sunday evening, Nasrallah also spoke about Israel's airstrikes on a target near the Syrian capital Damascus on Saturday, vowing retaliation.

Al-Manar TV airs video it says shows preparations for deadly attack on INS Hanit during Second Lebanon War, an event which became a symbol of Israel’s overconfidence

Hezbollah’s al-Manar TV on Thursday night for the first time aired footage it said came from a missile strike on an Israeli Navy ship during the 2006 Second Lebanon War.

In a documentary aired to commemorate 13 years since the war, the TV station said it was revealing new details about the strike on the INS Hanit that killed four Israeli soldiers — one of the most significant, and in Israel, infamous, events of the 34-day conflict.

Daily Beast: To Target Israel, Iran’s ‘Suitcase’ GPS Kits Turn Hezbollah Rockets Into Guided Missiles

Military sources say Iran is refitting thousands of ‘dumb’ rockets in Syria and Lebanon so it can zero in on targets the length and breadth of Israel.

TEL AVIV – The Warsaw Conference on Middle East Peace and Security last week didn’t seem to deliver much in the way of peace or security for the assorted countries attending. There was, to be sure, a lot of tough talk against Iran and the projection of a united front as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and several senior Arab officials all gathered in one room. Yet far away from the bright lights of the Trump-engineered summit, on the business end of the battle against Iran, Israeli security officials have a singular preoccupation: suitcases.

In interviews with The Daily Beast, senior Israeli military officers outlined new details about Iran’s plans to turn a vast arsenal of relatively dumb rockets in Syria and Lebanon into a deadly array of precision-guided missiles. The key, according to Israel, is a Global Positioning System (GPS) “kit” the size of small roll-aboard luggage.

War Of Words Between Israel And Hezbollah Intensifies

Haaretz: Netanyahu Warns Hezbollah of 'Lethal Force' Following Nasrallah Comments on Attack Tunnels

PM refutes the group's leader recent comments on attack tunnels entering from Lebanon being obsolete, says the organization is 'embarrassed'.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rebuked on Sunday Nasrallah's comments on the military operations to destroy the attack tunnels entering Israel from Lebanon, warning that Hezbollah faces "the lethal force of the Israel Defense Forces."

On Saturday Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah made his first public comments since Israel announced the discovery of the tunnels in November.

Nasrallah told Lebanon's Al Mayadeen TV station that one of the tunnels discovered by Israel is more than 13 years old, predating UN Security Council Resolution 1701, passed after the Second Lebanon War.

Israel Launches Military Operation To Destroy Hezbollah Infiltration Tunnels In Northern Israel

France 24: Israel launches operation to destroy Hezbollah infiltration tunnels

Israel’s army said on Tuesday it had detected Hezbollah tunnels infiltrating its territory from Lebanon and launched an operation to destroy them, a move likely to raise tensions with the Iran-backed group.

The surprise announcement came hours after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Brussels over regional dangers, with both having repeatedly warned over the activities of Iran, Israel’s main enemy.

Israeli army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Conricus said the “attack tunnels” were not yet operational. He declined to say how many were detected or how they would be destroyed.

Reuters: Hezbollah says rocket attack on Israeli-occupied Golan marks 'new phase'

BEIRUT (Reuters) - The leader of Lebanon’s Hezbollah group said on Monday a missile salvo into the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights last week marked a new phase in the Syrian war and showed Damascus and its allies would not let Israeli attacks in Syria go unanswered.

Israel has said the attack from Syrian territory was carried out by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, which set up Shi’ite Hezbollah in Lebanon in 1982. Iranian forces and Hezbollah have deployed to Syria in support of President Bashar al-Assad.

Israel said it had attacked nearly all of Iran’s military infrastructure in Syria in response to the attack, which marked the first time Iranian forces have fired at Israeli-held territory. It was the most extensive military exchange ever between the foes.
