Are Hezbollah's Anti-Ship Missiles A Threat To The U.S. Navy?

Reuters: Hezbollah's anti-ship missiles bolster its threat to US navy

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Powerful Russian anti-ship missiles acquired by Hezbollah give it the means to deliver on its leader's veiled threat against U.S. warships and underline the grave risks of any regional war, sources familiar with the group's arsenal say.

Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah warned Washington last week his group had something in store for the U.S. vessels deployed to the region since war erupted last month between the Palestinian group Hamas and Israel, shaking the wider Middle East.

Two sources in Lebanon familiar with the Iran-backed group's arsenal say he was referring to Hezbollah's greatly enhanced anti-ship missile capabilities, including the Russian-made Yakhont missile with a range of 300 km (186 miles).

Hezbollah Leader Hassan Nasrallah Warns The U.S. To Halt Israel's Gaza Attacks Or Risk A Regional War

Reuters: Hezbollah tells U.S. to halt Israel's Gaza attack to prevent regional war

BEIRUT (Reuters) - The leader of Lebanon's Hezbollah warned the United States on Friday that preventing a regional conflict depended on stopping the Israeli attack on Gaza, and said there was a possibility of fighting on the Lebanese front turning into a full-fledged war.

Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, in his first speech since the Israel-Hamas war erupted on Oct. 7, also threatened Israel's main ally the United States, hinting his Iran-backed group was ready to confront U.S. warships in the Mediterranean.

"You, the Americans, can stop the aggression against Gaza because it is your aggression. Whoever wants to prevent a regional war, and I am talking to the Americans, must quickly halt the aggression on Gaza," Nasrallah said.

Jerusalem Post: Hezbollah's Nasrallah suffers second stroke, hospitalized in Beirut

Nasrallah canceled a Friday speech after the Lebanese terror group said he had fallen ill with influenza.

Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah was rushed to intensive care after suffering a stroke, according to reports from Lebanon and Saudi Arabia.

The reports came after Nasrallah canceled a planned Friday speech, with the Lebanese terrorist organization announcing through its affiliated media he had fallen ill with influenza and was unable to speak well.

Saudi journalist Hussein al-Gawi contradicted Hezbollah's statement, claiming that Nasrallah indeed suffered a second stroke instead of falling ill as was reported.

The Hezbollah leader was reportedly hospitalized at the Great Prophet Hospital in Beirut.

The leader of Lebanon’s Iran-backed Shi’ite group Hezbollah said on Monday that last week’s Beirut violence in which seven Shi’ite Muslims were shot dead was a dangerous development and marked a new phase in the country’s internal politics.

In his first remarks since the worst street violence in over a decade, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah lashed out at the Christian Lebanese Forces (LF) party and its head Samir Geagea, repeating accusations that they were responsible for the killings on Thursday.

Hezbollah Says Iranian Fuel Tanker Is Headed For Lebanon. Dares Israel And US To Act

Times of Israel/AFP: Daring Israel and US to act, Hezbollah says Iran fuel tanker to sail to Lebanon

Terror group’s chief Nasrallah doesn’t say how ship will deliver cargo in defiance of US sanctions Hezbollah terror group chief Hassan Nasrallah said Thursday a tanker would set off from Iran “within hours” to bring desperately needed fuel supplies to Lebanon, in defiance of US sanctions.

Many questions remain about how the shipment would reach its stated destination, where acute and growing fuel shortages have forced hospitals, businesses and government offices shut amid a crippling economic crisis.

But the move, prohibited by US sanctions on Iran’s oil industry, could drag Lebanon into the covert naval war between Tehran and Israel.

Nasrallah dared Iran’s foes to stop the shipment.

Hezbollah Accuses The U.S. For Lebanon's Economic Crisis. Wants Chinese Bailout

Reuters: Hezbollah leader says dollar injections needed, accuses U.S. of deepening shortage

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Lebanon’s Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said on Tuesday that dollar injections were needed to shore up the pound currency and accused the United States of preventing dollars from reaching the crisis-hit country.

A dive in the pound currency last week sparked fresh protests in Lebanon, prompting the government to announce that the central bank would begin injecting scarce dollars into the market this week to reverse its fall.

Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh said on Tuesday the central bank was working with money changers to gradually reduce the dollar price but has not commented on whether dwindling reserves had yet been deployed to boost the pound.

In a televised address, Narallah said the United States had blocked dollars from reaching Lebanon, worsening a shortage that has hiked prices.

Hezbollah Leader Nasrallah Calls For Revenge Attacks Against The U.S. For The Death Of Iranian Major General Qassem Soleimani

France 24: Hezbollah leader vows bloody retaliation for US killing of Iranian general

Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said on Sunday the US military in the Middle East would pay the price for killing Iranian Major General Qassem Soleimani, which he said marked ‘the start of a new phase’ for the region.

Nasrallah, speaking in a televised address marking Soleimani’s death in a targeted US air strike, said responding to the killing was not only Iran’s responsibility but the responsibility of its allies in the region too.

As thousands listened at a rally in the southern suburbs of Beirut, the Hezbollah leader said the US killing of Soleimani marked “the start of a new phase and new history not just for Iran or Iraq but the whole region”. He called the killing a “clear, blatant crime” that will transform the Middle East.

Reuters: Hezbollah says Iran would destroy Saudi Arabia in any war

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Lebanon’s Hezbollah warned Saudi Arabia on Friday against betting on a war against Iran because it would destroy the kingdom and said Riyadh and the United Arab Emirates should halt the conflict in Yemen to protect themselves.

Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, head of the Iran-backed Shi’ite Muslim group, also said new air defenses could not easily defend Saudi Arabia from the type of drones used in a Sept. 14 attacks on Saudi oil installations.

Tensions have spiked in the region since the attacks that officials in Washington and Riyadh have blamed on Iran, which has denied involvement. Responsibility was claimed by Yemen’s Houthi movement, an Iran-aligned group fighting a Saudi-led alliance in Yemen’s civil war.

Iran’s GPS Kits Have Turned Hezbollah Rockets Into Guided Missiles

Daily Beast: To Target Israel, Iran’s ‘Suitcase’ GPS Kits Turn Hezbollah Rockets Into Guided Missiles

Military sources say Iran is refitting thousands of ‘dumb’ rockets in Syria and Lebanon so it can zero in on targets the length and breadth of Israel.

TEL AVIV – The Warsaw Conference on Middle East Peace and Security last week didn’t seem to deliver much in the way of peace or security for the assorted countries attending. There was, to be sure, a lot of tough talk against Iran and the projection of a united front as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and several senior Arab officials all gathered in one room. Yet far away from the bright lights of the Trump-engineered summit, on the business end of the battle against Iran, Israeli security officials have a singular preoccupation: suitcases.

In interviews with The Daily Beast, senior Israeli military officers outlined new details about Iran’s plans to turn a vast arsenal of relatively dumb rockets in Syria and Lebanon into a deadly array of precision-guided missiles. The key, according to Israel, is a Global Positioning System (GPS) “kit” the size of small roll-aboard luggage.

Is The U.S. About To Target Hezbollah's Presence In Latin America?

The aftermath of the 1994 AMIA bombing in Buenos Aires (Newspaper La Naciรณn (Argentina/Wikipedia Commons)

Politico: How Trump Is Going After Hezbollah in America’s Backyard

The pro-Iranian militant group is up to no good in Latin America—and U.S. officials are pushing back.

The Trump administration is pushing back aggressively against what the intelligence community often refers to as the “Iran Threat Network” or ITN, and as part of that campaign it is especially keen to focus on the activities of Hezbollah, the pro-Iranian Lebanese militia, in Latin America. Now, new revelations about a Hezbollah cold case from 1994 underscore the importance of rolling back the group’s footprint in the region.

On July 19, 1994, the day after Hezbollah operatives blew up the AMIA Jewish community center in Buenos Aires, the group sent a suicide bomber to take down a flight on Alas Chiricanas Airlines, a Panamanian commuter airliner carrying mostly Jewish passengers, including several Americans. The case languished for years, but the FBI appears to have recently collected new information which, together with evidence gleaned from other current investigations, is likely to serve as the basis for a variety of actions aimed at Hezbollah, the lynchpin of the ITN and Iran’s most powerful proxy group.

Hezbollah Boasts That It Is Using Drones To Bomb ISIS In Syria

Times of Israel: Hezbollah says it used drones to bomb Islamic State in Syria

Media outlet linked to terror group says unmanned craft struck jihadist targets during fighting along border.

A source in the coalition fighting in support of Syrian President Bashar Assad’s regime said Hezbollah has confirmed using attack drones in the fight against the Islamic State terror group.

The Lebanese terror group used the drones to hit IS positions in the Qalamoun mountains, near the border with Lebanon, a military media unit linked to the Shiite terror organization said, according to Reuters.

Video said to be from the drone showed unguided bombs being dropped on a site in the mountains.

While the official told the news agency it was the first such confirmation from the Lebanon-based group, a media unit connected to Hezbollah posted video of what it said was a drone dropping bombs near Aleppo last year.

Hezbollah Leader Says The Next War Will Be On Israeli Territory

Reuters: Hezbollah says future war would be on Israeli territory

Lebanese Hezbollah said on Thursday that any future conflict between the Shi'ite group and Israel could take place inside Israeli territory, as tensions rise between the arch foes.

Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah's leader, also said in a speech televised live that the group was dismantling all its military positions along Lebanon's eastern border with Syria, and this area would now be patrolled just by the Lebanese army.

Hezbollah, an ally of Tehran and Damascus, has been fighting for years in Syria's conflict against an array of rebels and Sunni Islamist fighters.

Times of Israel: Hezbollah nearly bankrupt, but Nasrallah awash in cash — report

German daily says military involvement in Syria and US sanctions have forced terror group to increasingly rely on illicit schemes to raise money.

The Lebanese terror organization Hezbollah is reportedly on the verge of bankruptcy as a result of its large outlays on fighting in Syria and from the increasing squeeze of US sanctions on its revenue streams, though top members continue to pad their own wallets.

According to a report Friday in the German daily Die Welt, Hezbollah’s increasing financial difficulties have led the group to increasingly rely on a number illicit schemes to earn money, including money laundering, drug trafficking and counterfeiting, as well as through its substantial property holdings.

The Israeli military's chief of staff has added weight to Arab media reports that Hezbollah was behind the killing of its own commander in Syria in 2016.

Lt Gen Gadi Eisenkot said Israeli intelligence had similarly concluded that Mustafa Amine Badreddine was assassinated by his own men.

He was killed by a blast near Damascus, which the militant Lebanese Shia group blamed on Sunni extremist rebels.

Badreddine was believed to have run the group's operations in Syria since 2011.

Who Killed The Military Commander Of Hezbollah?

Mustafa Badreddine. Reuters

Shane Harris, Daily Beast: Who Really Killed a Playboy Terrorist?

One of the world’s most wanted terrorists met a fiery death last month. The mystery over who killed him is now an international guessing game—with the prime suspects in Washington.
Plenty of people wanted Mustafa Badreddine dead.

There were the Saudis, who blamed him for terror attacks in the kingdom and against its allies abroad.

The Israelis had already once tried to assassinate Badreddine, the military commander of Hezbollah and one of the most important and powerful figures in the organization.

Even Badreddine’s own Hezbollah brethren were said to have their knives out, feuding with the storied militant over where the group should devote its resources: Towards attacks against its longstanding enemy, Israel, or on the battlefields of Syria, where Badreddine had been commanding around 6,000 men in an all-out effort to prop up the regime of Bashar al-Assad. Some Hezbollah figures had also chastised Badreddine as an easily distracted womanizer who had developed a taste for the high-life, dining in fine restaurants and tooling around Lebanon in a Mercedes.

Although he is still 18 years old, Karim has already trained and fought with Hezbollah in Syria, gotten wounded and left the party a few weeks after his injury. His involvement in Syria’s war, in addition to the fact that he’s lived all his life in the heart of the southern suburbs of Beirut, makes him look and sound much older than his real age. His familiarity with the nuances of life there, and acute observations on how the party and the community are changing, makes it very hard to argue with him.
