Is New York City's Mayor A Racist?

Daily Mail: NYC Mayor Eric Adams apologizes for calling white police officers 'crackers' and bragging about outperforming them in 2019 video

* NYC Mayor Eric Adams, 61, bragged about outperforming white officers while calling them 'crackers' in newly resurfaced video from 2019

* 'Every day in the police department, I kicked those crackers’ a**,' he said at an event in East Harlem at the time

* The mayor has since apologized for his 'inappropriate comments' at an unrelated press conference on Friday

* The presidents of the Police Benevolent Association and Detectives Endowment Association said they still supported the mayor, despite the comment

* The video was posted by Thomas Lopez-Pierre, who voted for Adams, wrote off the comments as 'how black people talk'

New York City Mayor Eric Adams apologized for a 2019 video where he called white police officers 'crackers.' Adams, 61, was caught bragging about being an 'unbelievably' good police officer compared to his white colleagues at a 2019 event in East Harlem where he was announcing he was going to run for mayor.

'Every day in the police department, I kicked those crackers’ a**,' he said in the recently resurfaced video.

'Man, I was unbelievable in the police department with 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement.'

For The First Time In 114 Years New York City Cancels This Year's New Years Eve Celebration At Times Square

Daily Mail: New York CANCELS New Year's Eve: World famous Times Square bash is canned for first time in 114 years amid COVID-19 fears - with celebrations replaced by 'virtual event' on app

* New York's Times Square New Year's Eve ball drop will be virtual this year to accommodate for living under the pandemic
* Times Square will be cordoned off by the NYPD on December 31st
* The event is co-produced by the Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment
* Jamestown, which owns One Times Square, have built a virtual world of Times Square and an app to broadcast the New Year's Eve Ball drop
* While news and past events are highlighted during the celebration, organizers are looking to not linger on COVID and racial tension

New York's Times Square will bid farewell to 2020 without the usual huddled masses jamming the streets on New Year's Eve officials have announced, amid fears that crowds could spread coronavirus.

The New Year's Eve celebration in Times Square is among the biggest in the world, typically drawing about a million people to the streets of midtown Manhattan, with more than a billion more tuning in on television.

But this year Times Square will be cordoned off by the NYPD on December 31st, with organizers instead planning a scaled-back, virtual event and an app where revelers can view the countdown remotely.

The Times Square Alliance, which runs the event, said only a very limited group of socially distanced people will be allowed into the square for broadcast purposes.

Mass Exodus From New York City

Daily Mail: Exodus from the Upper West Side: Fleet of moving trucks descend on NYC neighborhood and dozens wait in line to hire U-Hauls as residents already reeling from virus call it quits after Mayor de Blasio's decision to move 13k homeless people to the area

* U-Haul trucks and other moving vehicles were seen out in abundance on Manhattan’s troubled Upper West Side across the weekend
* The seeming exodus comes just days after it was revealed residents in the area are planning to sue the city for moving homeless people into nearby hotels
* While the end of the month often proves to be a busy moving period, Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa said he believes a 'mass evacuation' is in progress
* Long lines were seen outside of a number of U-Haul stations in the neighborhood across Saturday and Sunday, with moving vans lining residential streets
* The mayoral candidate, who often leads Guardian Angel patrols of the area, said he saw numerous moving trucks ‘stacked up’ down his street Saturday

U-Haul trucks and other moving vehicles were seen out in abundance on Manhattan’s troubled Upper West Side across the weekend.

The seeming exodus comes just days after it was revealed residents in the area are planning to sue the city after thousands of homeless people were put up in luxury hotels in the neighborhood in a controversial attempt to stem the spread of COVID-19 amid the ongoing pandemic.

Natives of the typically up-scale neighborhood say the moving in of the vagrants has caused an increase in crime, random violence, drug use, public urination and open prostitution. Some locals claim sex offenders have also moved into the streets.

WNU Editor: When you read stories like this one .... Cops use facial recognition technology to arrest man after brazen sex offender is filmed attempting to rape woman, 25, on Manhattan subway platform at 11am as she screamed in terror (Daily Mail). Or this one .... At least 18 shot as weekend violence continues to plague NYC, NYPD says (PIX 11). Add in New York City's taxes, and it makes sense to see why people are leaving. As to where are they fleeing, it is the suburbs .... Big Apple residents flee to the suburbs: Westchester County sees July home sales more than DOUBLE as NYC is ravaged by coronavirus and soaring crime rates (Daily Mail). But my friends who live and/or work in New York City tell me that it is still too early to call this a trend. They say give it another 6 to 9 months before making any conclusions.

What Has Happened To New York City?

Members of the NYPD walked along Sixth Avenue on Wednesday, but did not take any action about the chaos

Daily Mail: Manhattan or Skid Row? New York's homeless community use furniture and junk abandoned by wealthy people fleeing the city during the pandemic to build a sidewalk camp

* The camp on West 24th and Sixth Avenue sprung up early in the pandemic and has remained ever since
* Now residents and business owners complain about the mess and chaos and say it harms their livelihoods
* Around 15-20 people have taken up residence along the busy street and are camping out in doorways
* Bill de Blasio, mayor of New York, said on July 23 he would address the situation but little is being done
* He has moved 13,000 homeless people into hotels across the city to stop COVID-19 outbreaks in shelters
* It has sparked a rise in crime in some neighborhoods, like the Upper West Side, where residents are terrified
* There are also several hotels in the Garment District that are taking in homeless people
* It is costing the city some $2million a night - which they say they'll try to reclaim from FEMA later
* President Trump has ordered de Blasio - who stripped $1billion from the NYPD's budget- to rehire cops
* More than 1,100 cadets who were meant to graduate never did because he evaporated their jobs in response to pressure from BLM activists who wanted to defund the police

Exasperated residents of Manhattan's Chelsea district say they are tired of complaining to the authorities about a sprawling homeless camp that has taken root in their midst.

Around 20 people are believed to be living along West 24th Street, on the corner with Sixth Avenue, The New York Post reported. The camp is one block from the landmark Flatiron Building and Madison Square Park.

Bill de Blasio, mayor of New York, promised three weeks ago to resolve the depressing scene but nothing has been done, and locals told the paper that they were fed up.

WNU Editor: Here is an easy prediction. It is going to get worse. I have a lot of friends who live and/or work in New York City. To say that they are appalled with what is happening is an understatement. But when I tell them that their only salvation is to purge the politicians who are responsible for creating this catastrophe (i.e. the mayor of New York City and the governor of New York), with only 2 exceptions (out of about 15), the majority are blaming President Trump and the Republicans?!?!?!? This is unfortunately not the first time that I am witnessing a great city falling apart. New York City reminds me of Moscow in the early 1990s when the Soviet Union broke apart. The homeless, young girls prostituting themselves at the edge of Red Square, a complete breakdown of municipal and social services, social and political chaos coupled with many supporting the political class that gave them this disaster. Sighhh .... what New York City is going through today is just a fraction of what Moscow was going through almost 30 years ago. What eventually changed for Moscow was the election of reformist officials who purged the old bureaucracy and pushed for an environment that encouraged business and investment. It took 20 years but Moscow today is booming, and will continue to do so for a long time. Will this also happen for New York City? Maybe, but not anytime soon.

Update: New York is controlled by the Democrat machine and many of the state's voters are liberal/progressive. President Trump thinks he has a chance, but it is not going to happen .... Trump says high taxes and a spike in crime rates could help him WIN New York in the 2020 election as he vows to 'solve all of the many problems' in the city (Daily Mail).

With Violent Crime Soaring In New York City, The Mayor Assigns 27 Police Officers To Protect ‘Black Lives Matter’ Mural

Summit News: As Violent Crime in New York Soars, De Blasio Assigns 27 Cops to Protect ‘Black Lives Matter’ Mural

Police “not happy” about “getting paid to baby sit paint”.

Even as violent crime and deadly shootings in New York soar, Mayor Bill de Blasio has reportedly assigned no less than 27 cops working in shifts to protect a Black Lives Matter mural outside Trump Tower.

“Just heard that @NYCMayor has 1 & 8 securing the #BlackMindsMatter mural at Trump Tower,” tweeted former police commissioner Bernard Kerik. “That’s one sergeant and eight cops, x 3 tours a day! Violence, shootings, and murder is up in NYC and this clown has three sergeants and 24 cops guarding a mural! If true, #SICKENING.”

His claim was backed up by Derrick Gibson, who is running for governor of New York. Gibson said that he spoke to cops on the scene who said “they are getting paid to baby sit paint, and not happy about it.”

What Has Happened To New York City?

Around 500,000 mostly wealthy New York residents fled the city when Covid-19 hit the city, leaving parts on Manhattan, famously the ‘city that never sleeps’, resembling a ghost town. Above, A NYPD police car is set on fire as protesters clash with police

Daily Mail: Nightmare in New York: How Covid-19, BLM protests and a liberal mayor are turning the city into a no-go zone as murders skyrocket, shops are looted and 500,000 middle-class residents flee

* The number of shooting victims has gone up 51 per cent to 616 this year in NYC
* In June, there were 250 shootings compared to 97 in the same month in 2019
* Many blame New York’s mayor, Bill de Blasio, who has slashed police funding
* New York state has suffered the highest coronavirus death toll in America

Two bullet-ridden bodies lay sprawled on bloodstained concrete steps. Alongside, relatives of the victims are wailing and collapse to the ground. In another part of the city, a gang of youths use spray paint to disable security cameras before robbing a corner store. Later, video footage captures police officers sitting helplessly in their patrol car as a baying crowd hurls glass bottles at them.

This is lawless New York – a city that was once America’s glittering crown jewel but which risks descending into mob rule.

Murder figures have skyrocketed and a combination of the coronavirus pandemic, Black Lives Matter (BLM) protests and weak political leadership is in danger of achieving what Osama Bin Laden never could: bringing the Big Apple to its knees.

New York City: From Being One Of The Safest Cities In The World A Few Months Ago To Now One Of The Worse

1010Wins Radio: 112 injured or killed in 83 shootings over 9 days in NYC: 'I haven't seen anything like this in my entire life'

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A spike in gun violence has left over 100 people wounded or killed in dozens of shootings across New York City over the past nine days, police said Sunday.

There have been 112 victims in 83 shootings over a nine-day period ending Saturday, according to police. Most of those shot were expected to survive, but at least six people have died in the past week and others suffered serious or critical injuries.

Is Crime Exploding In New York City?

Zero Hedge: NYC Sees 400% Jump In Shootings As Undercover Unit Disbanded

As the NYPD disbands its undercover investigations unit, taking hundreds of crime-spotting undercover officers off the streets (a decision that will almost certainly lead to fewer low level arrests, but also leaves an opening for more serious crime to make a comeback), it appears one of the most closely followed crime metrics in NYC has skyrocketed compared with the same period last year.

According to stats released by the department, the number of shootings reported in NYC over the past week hit 55, compared with just 12 during the same period last year. That's a nearly 5-fold rise.

WNU Editor: I have a lot of friends who live in New York city and outside the five boroughs.  Most of them are progressives, and I am always asking for their opinion. Times Square Motorist Kills 1, Injures 23. Terrorism Is Being Ruled Out. Driver In Custody

CNN: Times Square car incident: 1 dead, 23 injured; driver in custody

(CNN)An 18-year-old woman was killed and at least 23 people injured Thursday when a speeding car plowed into pedestrians in Manhattan's bustling Times Square, city officials said.

The driver of the 2009 Honda Accord is in custody, New York Police Commissioner James O'Neill said. The motorist, 26-year-old Richard Rojas of the Bronx, has been arrested twice in the past for drunken driving, he said.

The incident, which unfolded just before noon, is being investigated as an accident, a police official said. There is no indication it was an act of terrorism, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and other city leaders said.

New York City To Expand It's Surveillance Net To Fight Crime As Well As Terrorism

NYPD Expands Surveillance Net To Fight Crime As Well As Terrorism -- Reuters

(Reuters) - Having developed one of the most sophisticated surveillance networks in the United States, the New York Police Department is now expanding its use, giving local precinct commanders new powers to fight street crime with high-tech tools previously used only in counterterrorism operations.

"The technology, having been inspired and engineered with a sense of urgency after 9/11, has obvious applications to conventional crime fighting," said Paul Browne, chief NYPD spokesman. "That is in the process of being expanded citywide, for what - after all - is our primary mission, which is to fight crime."

New York is among a handful of big U.S. cities that have been developing extensive surveillance networks in recent years using federal anti-terrorism funding. New York's network was initially modeled after London's so-called 'Ring of Steel,' the most extensive surveillance camera network anywhere.

My Comment: When NSA officials boast that their surveillance programs helped stop plots against the NYSE and the New York subway .... I suspect that it is only a matter of time before such "surveillance nets" are not only installed permanently in New York City, but (also) in most American cities.

Historic Moment As Spire Is Placed On 1,776ft World Trade Center In New York City

New York's Tower Of Strength: Historic Moment As Spire Is Placed On 1,776ft World Trade Center To Make It The Tallest Building In Western Hemisphere -- Daily Mail

The silver spire topping One World Trade Center has been fully installed on the building's roof, bringing the iconic structure to its full, symbolic height of 1,776 feet.

The spire's installation was completed Friday morning, after pieces of it had been transported to the roof of the building last week. Construction workers below applauded and cheered at the milestone.

'It's a pretty awesome feeling,' Juan Estevez, a construction project manager, said from a temporary platform on the roof of the tower where he and other workers watched the milestone. 'It's a culmination of a tremendous amount of team work ... rebuilding the New York City skyline once again.'

New York City Is Determined To Prevent Another 9/11

Fighting Terrorism In New York City -- CBS

As the top terror target in America, New York City has taken every measure to defend itself from another 9/11. The New York Police Department's counter-terrorism unit is one of the most sophisticated in the world - complete with sea, land and air capabilities all dedicated to thwarting an attack. Correspondent Scott Pelley gets a personal tour from the anti-terror unit's architect and leader, NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly.

This week, the United Nations General Assembly is in New York with 137 heads of State moving all over town. No city, at any time, has a security challenge like that. And this year it comes as U.S. intelligence is investigating "credible information" that terrorists want to target New York with a car bomb.

Big Apple Has Its Own Army, Navy, Tanks & Soon A Submarine

Exclusive: Elaborate New York City Post-9/11 Security -- CBS News

NYPD Commish: Big Apple Has Its Own Army, Navy, Tanks & Soon A Submarine.

NEW YORK (CBS 2) — The latest terror threat has come out just as a brand new CBS/New York Times poll shows 1 out of 3 New Yorkers still thinks about the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks at least once a week.

CBS 2’s Marcia Kramer has an exclusive look at the city’s post-9/11 security.

There are radiation detection boats in the waters, cameras that have been placed all over lower and Midtown Manhattan and there are cops with guns and tanks and all kinds of weapons, because in New York a terror attack could come from anywhere, and anyone.

Is New York City's Anti-Terrorism Progam The Way To Go?

Photo: New York's Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly

Terror Target: Manhattan -- Judith Miller, Wall Street Journal

New York's police commissioner says it's a big mistake to write off failed attacks as the work of incompetents, and he's developed his own intelligence apparatus to make sure they don't succeed.

What rankles Raymond W. Kelly? Two things, he tells me as we sip lukewarm coffee in his conference room on the 14th floor of One Police Plaza, the dilapidated police headquarters overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge.

The first, New York's police commissioner tells me, is "incompetence," an inescapable fact-of-life, or so it would seem, in any large bureaucracy (he has 50,000 employees). A second is the media's tendency to downplay New York's hard-won victories against terrorism—the failure or foiling of some 11 serious plots against the city since 2001—by describing the would-be perpetrators as incompetent or stupid.

My Comment: I have always believed that the reason why most terror attacks have failed in the U.S. (in the past few years) has been because of incompetence and/or bad luck. This article gives an opposite point of view.

The Spymaster Of New York

From Newsweek:

David Cohen and the NYPD are pioneering a new way of fighting terrorism.

In sweltering Mumbai last November, two days after the terrorist rampage that killed or wounded more than 500 people, some odd figures joined the alphabet soup of agencies investigating the atrocity—three New York Citypolice detectives. In 2005 other American cops looked at bomb detonators with Scotland Yard after the London tube bombings. Still others turned up in Madrid after its own train attacks in 2004, and several times in Jerusalem after suicide bombings there.

My Comment: His method of operation would never be applied in Homeland Security .... which is too bad.

Terror Threat On New York City Subways

Report of Terror Threat on Subways -- New York Times

The New York Police Department deployed extra officers and stepped up security measures in the subways and other mass-transit stations on Wednesday after learning of al Qaeda discussions to coordinate a wave of explosions in the subway system over the holidays, the authorities announced.

These plans were undeveloped and had only reached “the aspirational stage,” Paul J. Browne, the chief spokesman for the police department, said in a statement.

The city has learned of other plots to attack the subways, including one uncovered in 2005 that resulted in one of the more pronounced terror-prevention efforts the city has mounted since 9/11. While that plan was far along enough to prompt the Homeland Security Department to raise the nation’s threat level, the latest plot is apparently so rudimentary that it has not prompted the federal government to make any changes.
