* Sir David, 69, had been holding a surgery for constituents when he was attacked by the knifeman at midday 

* Horrified staff and Southend constituents saw stabbing happen as he was inside Belfairs Methodist Church 

* Sir David was treated at the scene by paramedics for more than an hour but later died, Essex Police said 

* Man, 25, was arrested at the scene and a knife was seized. The suspect is in custody and arrested over murder 

* Married father-of-five voted against gay marriage and abortion. He's survived by his wife Julia, his caseworker 

Conservative MP Sir David Amess has been murdered today after being stabbed 'multiple times' by a 25-year-old killer who sprinted into a church and knifed him to death during his weekly constituency surgery. 

The Tory MP for Southend West, 69, was meeting locals at the Belfairs Methodist Church, in Eastwood Road North, Leigh-on-Sea, when his attacker ran into the building wielding a knife before attacking the veteran politician at just after midday. 

Paramedics worked to save the politician on the floor of a Essex church for more than an hour but he could not be saved after the appalling attack with chilling similarities to the murder of Labour MP Jo Cox, who was shot and stabbed multiple times outside her constituency surgery at a local library in Birstall, West Yorkshire, in June 2016 by a right-wing terrorist.

Reuters: UK panic buying, up to 90% of fuel pumps dry 

A warning not to panic buy seems to have fallen on deaf ears in the UK. As up to 90% of fuel stations ran dry across major English cities on Monday (September 27). 

The rush to fill up deepened a supply chain crisis triggered by a shortage of truckers. 

Retailers are now warning the issue could batter the world's fifth-largest economy. 

A dire post-Brexit shortage of truck drivers has sown chaos through supply chains for everything from food to fuel. 

And has left consumers fearing price rises in the run up to Christmas.

Areas of Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham have become 'no-go' areas where the law is losing the battle against drug traffickers and organised crime, according to the United Nations' drugs chief.

The three cities were directly compared to the drug cartels which hold sway over large parts of Brazil and Mexico by Professor Hamid Ghodse, the president of the UN’s International Narcotics Control Board (INCB).

He said the cities were trapped in 'a vicious cycle of social exclusion and drugs problems and fractured communities'.

Terror Threat In UK 'Approaching Critical'

The terrorist threat in Britain is approaching critical as police and MI5 face an increase in activity by al-Qaeda militants, senior security officials have disclosed.

The threat level is at the "severe end of severe" according to sources who say the level of "chatter" among terrorist cells has increased in recent months.

The security services say they are now operating at full stretch to counter the elevated threat.

Britain's close relationship with the US has been particularly inflammatory after cross-border raids into Pakistan by American forces.

Security officials had considered downgrading the official threat level from "severe" but that plan has now been abandoned as a result of the increase in terrorist activity.

A senior counter terrorism source said: "We were looking at the threat level six months ago and asking how severe is severe? But it is October now and we are at the severe end of severe.

"Al-Qaeda's core exists on the Afghan-Pakistan border. The arrangement of people changes at a frighteningly rapid pace but they have enough people to replace them and there are people who are looking at us and at external operations, some at this country in particular.

My Comment: This is an acknowledgement among some in the U.K. that they are losing in the war against terror. What do they know that analysts in Homeland Security USA do not.
