Violence Erupts Outside Pro-Morsi Sit-Ins In Cairo -- Voice of America
Security officials and witnesses say the fighting broke out when the Muslim Brotherhood, which is demanding that Morsi be reinstated, tried to break into the Interior Ministry.
CAIRO — Tens of thousands of supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi continued to fortify their sit-ins Tuesday amid recent threats from the police that the protesters would be forced out if they refuse to go.
Outside the sit-ins, police fired tear gas as clashes erupted during rallies by hundreds of supporters of Egypt's Islamist president in front of government buildings in the heart of Cairo.
Security officials and witnesses say the fighting broke out when the Muslim Brotherhood, which is demanding that Morsi be reinstated, tried to break into the Interior Ministry where they said members are being held. Morsi was thrown out of office July 3 by the military.
