Can Ukraine Win The War In The East? -- Ian Bateson, Kyiv Post
When tanks and artillery entered the southern Donetsk Oblast from Russia on Aug. 27 it caught Ukrainian forces off guard, sending shockwaves through Ukraine’s leadership. Resistance quickly crumbled as the advancing forces took Novoazovsk and surrounding villages.
With reports that Russian regulars led the offensive not Russian-supported Ukrainian separatists or volunteers, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk appeared in front of television cameras visibly shaken. “Russian terrorists we can handle, but not the Russian army,” he said before trailing off.
With the new offensive the optimism that existed in July, when Defence Minister Valeriy Heletey said Ukraine would hold a victory march in the Crimean city of Sevastopol, has evaporated. Doubt is growing among both the Ukrainian officials and military experts as to whether Ukraine could win this war.

My Comment: Ian Bateson believes that Ukraine still has a chance to win this war through military means .... fortunately .... Ukrainian President Poroshenko is abandoning this no-win situation in favor of a political solution.

This omens a coup attempt from the right in Kiev.
WNU,
Now that I've thought about it a little more, I'm going to go into tin foil hat territory for a bit. As you know these kind of articles don't just come from nowhere and then the really odd timing of the new sanctions tell me something might be up. The brainiacs in the West might just believe this is militarily winnable. Putin's pulling out, drop the sanctions on him as a don't come back warning, remove Poroshenko and any other person inclined to settle and make another go at it. I know it's a big reach, but something stinks.
The last thing that Ukraine needs right now is a coup .... it would alienate many western European governments, and the reaction on the streets in Kiev would be one of outrage. On the bright side .... the nationalists are being blamed for starting the mess in the eastern part of the country .... so Poroshenko is immune .... for now. But who knows what the situation will be a few months from now .... when it is winter and there is no heat.
