Mona Alami, Al-Monitor: Next Israel-Hezbollah confrontation could be in Syria

There is a relative calm in southern Syria in the wake of the July 7 US-Russian-brokered cease-fire agreement backed by Jordan. The deal came against the backdrop of increased clashes between pro-regime militias and the Syrian opposition, as well as escalating strikes by Israel on Iranian interests in the region. Yet the cease-fire will be difficult to hold in the long run given the strategic importance southern Syria holds for Iran and its proxy, Hezbollah. Such local dynamics mean that the possibility of a future showdown between Hezbollah and Israel is increasingly strong in southern Syria — more than in nearby Lebanon, Hezbollah’s bastion.

Russian troops in charge of monitoring the cease-fire appear to have deployed on July 17 in the Daraa province, according to Syrian Masdar News. The recent US-Russian deal included establishing de-escalation zones along Syria’s borders with both Jordan and Israel.

WNU Editor: In the mind of Hezbollah .... waging war against Israel is just as important as waging war against Sunni extremists and opponents of Syrian President Assad. Hezbollah's focus right now is on fighting the civil war in Syria .... but once that conflict is over .... the grievances that have launched past Israeli - Hezbollah wars are still there, and it will not take much for them to restart again. The only question that we do not know the answer to is .... will that war be waged in Lebanon, south-east Syria, or both.

Hezbollah is eager to fight with Israel because they have a lot of experience in conflict now...and they will have a huge support from Iran. That's the last point which is the more worrying. We could imagine how it will begin but hardly know how it will finish.

My money is on Israel
a) they know how to fight too
b) they've got nowhere to go
c) they've got superior tech and training
d) they don't give a f*ck about political correctness in killing (something the US does and holds them back dearly in terms of efficiency, in comparison to e.g. Russians, who also don't give a f)
e) western states (US, Germany etc) would come to Israel's help
f) Israelis/Jews are cool :D

Their experience is fighting peasant/jihadi militias under complete armour/artillery/air support.

Fighting the IDF is going to be a whole new experience.

LMFAO,

http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/HJ12Ak01.html

Hezboallah's been fighting the IDF as a light infantry/guerrilla force since 1985,

In 2000, they drove the IDF out of their occupation os Southern Lebanon and destroyed the IDF trained and armed SLA Heavy Infantry forces.

In 2006, they stopped the heavy armoured forces of the IDF and their airsupport in their invasion, and forced the IDF into not only, the political theater of airlifting forces to "occupy", unoccupied hills, then abandon them as the Hezboallah forces closed in,

They "forced" the IAF into engaging in widespread "collective punishment", because the IAF couldn't "find" Hezboallah targets, and instead, targetted civillians,

and they drove the IAN away from the Lebanese Coast for the first time, ever.

In the aftermath of the 2006 War, an Israeli Government fell, hundreds of Isreali Officers were cashiered or resigned, and thousands of IDF soldier's "quit".

Now, Hezboallah in Syria has tanks, IFV's, APC's, air defences, organic artillary, better ATGM's and is used to combat as Armoured Brigaides as defenders and beseiger's against similarly armed opponents, and as "Shock Troops" for the SAA.
