ABC News: Kim Yo Jong, sister of North Korean leader, steps further into spotlight at inter-Korean summit

Behind the scenes of Pyongyang’s grand welcome ceremony for a South Korean delegation Tuesday was the mysterious Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un.

Kim Yo Jong was the watch commander of the greeting event, caught on camera running around the red-carpeted airstrip in Sunan International Airport making sure everyone knew their path. Sitting beside Kim Jong Un during the first round of inter-Korean talks in the three-day summit, she made her presence known as his trusted confidante.

Update: Kim Yo Jong a 'power player' at third inter-Korea summit (UPI).

WNU Editor: The media focus has been on her brother Kim Jong-un, South Korean President Moon, and President Trump. But Kim Yo Jong is the only person who has been present in every meeting concerning Korean peace talks and reconciliation starting with her first trip to South Korea during the Winter Olympics earlier this year. And since that trip .... she has always been behind her brother saying nothing, but watching everything. My gut is usually right .... so you can take this to the bank. She is one of the main driving forces on the North Korean side to bring peace to the Korean peninsula.

"My gut is usually right..." From reading your posts these last several years, I concur your gut is usually right. As such, the conclusion that she is one of the most important forces behind this is probably spot on.

My theory is still that Trump is the main driving force behind this. As his sister, she will have been an active influence in his life for a long time. He was the leader of NK before Trump became POTUS. His father was the NK leader before he was. As such, she has been an integral part of NK politics for much her life. While I do think you are correct that she is one of the driving forces, as the only new variable to this I think Trump is the main driving force.

Time will tell as to who, what when, and how and this will likely only happen if this effort ultimately succeeds. There is still much that can go wrong.

She was around during Obama's time ... and nothing.

She is one of the Main Drivers.

So is Trump.

So is the South Korean President.

So is Kim Jong Un

She would have been around during Obama's time. Actually something did happen during this time. Tensions increased. We were on the brink of war and Trump and his team had to come in and essentially work on cleaning up the mess.

She and those like her have always been there as a member of the ruling family. Men like Kim Jong Un have always been there as a continuer of the ruling family's policy. Men like Moon have always been there on the South Korean side. Even men like Pompeo have always been there on our side.

As the only new variable to this, I conclude that president Trump is the main driver. While others are important, he seems to me to be the most important. Assuming this succeeds time will tell.

I suspect if this does succeed in the short to mid term Trump will probably not get a great deal of credit. Ironically as the man most responsible for the positive developments he actually seems to be the person who would least want to actually take credit for it!! This is unusual (and refreshing) to have an American leader who either is not driven by ego or checks it extremely well. Frankly, if this is successful, I really don't care who gets the credit.

“The 600lb gorilla in the room is sanctions,” Victor Cha, a former director for Asian Affairs at the National Security Council. “South Korea is promising all of these goodies to the North but can’t do any of it with sanctions in place – the subtext is clear, Seoul is going to approach the US to lift sanctions so it can pursue the inter-Korean peace, but the sanctions are on the regime for denuclearization and human rights abuses. Crossed lines that look like we are headed for a train wreck.”

Cha said the progress in Pyongyang towards denuclearization was minimal.

“Trump is praising it all which is astounding to me,” Cha, now at CSIS said. “You have a president taking credit for things that have not yet happened [denuclearization] and a DPRK leader agreeing to do what he has already done with the South Koreans applauding it as new.”

We were never on the brink of war say the shill.

Brinksman Kim Jong Un was playing Brinksmanship.

Bad shit often happens when playing chicken.

Anon 737 provides no proof.

We are applauding that it is going in the right direction.

The North Korean agitprop is a 2 edge sword. They changed their tune. It would be dangerous for them to backpedal.

The New Left in the West came about due to the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact and also the de Stalinization in the 1950s.

Some principles are at work today.

Keep denying though
