The Vietnamese Found A Chinese Torpedo

Warzone/The Drive: A Vietnamese Fisherman Reeled In A Chinese Torpedo In The South China Sea

It's now in the hands of the Vietnamese military and they will likely pick it apart for any intelligence value.

Vietnamese fisherman Tran Minh Thanh landed an unusual catch the other day, finding what appears to be a Chinese torpedo off the country's coast. Under the watchful eye of local border guards, Tran dragged it ashore where onlookers got a chance to see it before government officials took it away for further inspection.

Tran reportedly found the torpedo more than four miles out to sea from his village in Vietnam's central Phu Yen province, which would be within the country's national waters, on Dec. 18, 2018. The weapon is slightly over 22 feet long and has a diameter of just over 21 inches. It's size and shape, coupled with Chinese markings, strongly suggest that it is Yu-6 from the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN).

The Vietnamese hate the Chinese, so they'll enjoy this Intel present. My guess is they have also already contacted the US government to see if they're interested (for the right sum, of course).

The US and Britain have or had a very good military / intel relationship.

Money is not needed there. It still plays a role and is talked about, but maybe not up front.

The relationship with Vietnam is not as good. If we would walk away form the Kurds, we'll walk away from them.

Money should be up front. Nothing wrong with discussing it up front.

Uhmyeah ..listen the Kurds got quite a bit out of the relationship with the US.. we're not married to them okay? It was a partnership based on mutual interest and just because they want xyz doesn't mean we have to play along. On the Vietnam issue- there's currently no formalised partnership. both sides do want to formalise something though but it takes time. Obama was the first president to go there since the Vietnam war and so this is all new. The Vietnamese do actually hate the Chinese, something many people don't understand and which was also the onset of the unfortunate domino theory. In any case, the Vietnamese love this find.

"...the Kurds got quite a bit out of the relationship with the US..." IMHO they got way more out of this relationship than the US got. Frankly, I am sick to death of hearing about them and have been for quite some time.

Even though our personnel may be being withdrawn, if this actually happens, this doesn't necessarily mean we are going to "walk away" from them. There are a number of ways to help someone. It doesn't have to necessarily be with a direct commitment of troops.

All in all this is a good find for the Vietnamese. I'm sure our personnel would like to get a look at this and of course the Vietnamese would be within reason to expect to be compensated. This is how normal people behave when they possess something of value.

I agree, ld also add that the Kurds were some of the most courageous men and women on the battlefield, and their courage under fire would be a medal of honor citation in the coalition. For them its a shrug and this is what we do.
They are the only players in this fiasco that lm not sick of hearing about

Well, the money can interest Vietnam, but the most important is to make the analysis of the torpedo with American experts. Information on that is gold.
