Political Crisis For Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau Deepens With The Resignation Of A Cabinet Minister Over Allegations That She Was Pressured To Intervene On A Criminal Case

CTV News: Jody Wilson-Raybould resigns from Trudeau cabinet amid SNC-Lavalin scandal

OTTAWA – Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould has resigned from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's cabinet, "with a heavy heart," and is seeking legal advice about speaking publicly about the SNC-Lavalin scandal.

Her resignation comes amid questions into whether Trudeau or anyone in his office tried to pressure Wilson-Raybould to abandon the prosecution of a case against SNC-Lavalin when she was justice minister and attorney general.

In her letter of resignation as Veterans Affairs Minister Wilson-Raybould said she has retained former Supreme Court judge Thomas Cromwell to provide advice about speaking publicly about the scandal, as she has been called on to do since the news broke last week.

WNU Editor: First things first .... I have a friend who works for Montreal-based SNC-Lavalin, the company that is in the center of this scandal. He has always told me that the reason why the company that he works for is one of the biggest in the world is because they are aggressive in getting what they want from governments. It looks like he is right .... and now the consequences of this behaviour is seriously damaging the Canadian government. The allegations that the office of the Prime Minister intervened in a criminal case are very serious. The minister's resignation today, only 24 hours after the Prime Minister gave her his vote of support on this case, is damning. I do not know where this case will now go, but I do know that this is going to severely damage Prime Minister Trudeau's chances to win re-election later year. The Liberal Party in Canada has a long history and reputation of corruption. This will only solidify this point of view. Prime Minister Trudeau will be addressing this live at 18:00 EST today .... Wow, will any of the original founding members of the anti-Trump #Resistance make it to 2020? Macron, May, Trudeau and Merkel, all are barely hanging on. On the other hand Trump defies all and has a much more respectable approval percentage.
