Reuters: South Korea says no deal between Trump, Kim regrettable but progress made

HANOI (Reuters) - South Korea said it regretted that no deal was reached at a summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday but the two sides had made meaningful progress.

Trump said he had walked away from a nuclear deal at his second meeting with Kim, in Vietnam, because Kim had made unacceptable demands on lifting biting U.S.-led sanctions.

South Korea’s presidential office, known as the Blue House, said in a statement Trump and Kim made “more meaningful progress than ever”, and Trump’s willingness to continue dialogue would brighten prospects for another meeting.

WNU Editor: My South Korean contacts and friends are telling me that the onus is now on South Korea to continue the dialogue with North Korea, and to continue the process of talks and de-escalating tensions. I agree, and I expect the Chinese will also become more engaged to find common ground to continue the goal of denuclearizing the Korean peninsula.

Give and take Donald, give and take. No give, no take.

If the South helped the North by-pass some of those sanctions they might move along on becoming best buds. That would throw the Trump organization in a tizzy for sure.

This was a play to an inside straight for President Trump and I believe he understands the dynamic. Kim does not make any change or concession that is not given a green light by China. China is not going to give President Trump a diplomatic victory without their getting their commission which is the US agreeing to their trade demands. Toss in the notion that President Trump was being attacked relentlessly by his political opponents and would therefore have a personal incentive to compromise, and what you have is a low probability of President Trump achieving the diplomatic success he sought to achieve. My guess is that the next phase is less personal, and includes China and perhaps Russia, at the table in the same size chair as President Trump. That is a good recipe for a stalemate. The opportunity for a break out, if there is one, lays in economic forces none of the principals have full control over.

Fred at what point did you give up independent reasoning. I've barely ever in my entire life witnessed someone as dumb and easily manipulated as you. You're soon the last person to believe in the Russia hoax. You will have wasted countless hours doing the media's/DNCs bidding. No one believes you. No one reads your comments. You're officially a moron in my book now. How retarded can one person be to still believe in this?

Fred

Where I play cards there is a very strong french group, long time and historically original residents of the community. The ones I play cards with and basically in my age group come from quite large families. One guy was simply named "Boy". It seems with 16 kids, mostly boys they ran out of boy names when he came along. His wife told me that more than a few times when shopping in the US she will see something she wants him to look at and has called him by name "Boy" as per usual. She/he get many looks from the locals.

There are many reasons to post as Anonymous. Certainly this person, and I use the word person jokingly, gives that handle a very bad name. He/she is no doubt so embarrassed by his/her inability to communicate properly he/she was unable to come up with a fake name, perhaps afraid of subconsciously betraying his/her identity.
