Ted Galen Carpenter, National Interest: How Iran Would Battle the U.S. In a War (It Would Be Bloody)

This is not something Washington should rush into.

Kenneth Adelman, a former assistant to Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and a prominent figure in the U.S. foreign policy community, famously predicted in 2002 that a war to oust Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein would be a “cakewalk.” President Donald Trump apparently learned nothing from Adelman’s hubris and rosy optimism. Although he aborted a planned airstrike on Iran at the last minute, Trump later warned Iranian leaders that the military option was still very much on the table. He added that if the United States used force against Iran, Washington would not put boots on the ground but would wage the conflict entirely with America’s vast air and naval power. There was no doubt in his mind about the outcome. He asserted that such a war “wouldn’t last very long,” and that it would mean the “obliteration” of Iran.

WNU Editor: All wars never end up as expected, especially in the Middle East. Does President Trump understand this .... I would like to think the answer is yes. Does Iran understand this .... I have doubts, and with sanctions now making an Iranian economy even worse than what it is, I have concerns on what they may do next.

Idlib still standing is proof of Iranian weakness. Idlib has been shelled and bombed for a long time and the SA, Hezbollah, Shia militias and Iran cannot take it. Qasem Soleimani has not shown his face there. If he did and the subsequent push failed, he would no longer look like a golden child.

If Iran tangles with the US and it gets serious, they will strike in Europe, Africa, South America and in the US with the possibility that they burn a lot of their Hezbo assets. The same would happen to them. MEL, the Baluchis, Khuzestanis and others (Azebaijanis and Kurds) might see profit in overthrowing the dirty robes, the Nehemiah Scudders of Iran.

Hezbo assets protected by Barack Hussein Osama with his bad nuclear deal.

Iran would be quickly and soundly defeated, we know it, Iran knows it but as quick as that defeat has to be it wont be. Iran will launch wave after wave of relentless attacks and it will be nondiscriminatory. We are talking about mongol hordes just slaughtering anything and everything. You better be able to contain it because if you think North Korea is bad!

It is interesting, your using the reference to the Mongol hordes, a group that also envisioned themselves as world conquerors as if the Iranians were anything like them which they aren't. Soundly defeated?

The Iranians were very much like the Mongols.

The Iranians were the original steppe people and taught all others.

The Mongols fell apart because Khan #2 wasn't the son of Ghenghis.

Apparently, the Mongols could count up to 9 or even 10.

Ghenghis's wife had been kidnapped and made the wife of a Naiman and shortly thereafter the Naimans were politely shown the door to Hades.

2002 Iraq war was a cake walk, the occupation wasn't, nobody is, talking about invading and occupying Iran.
Over 200 Israeli strikes on Iranian interests and proxies by Israel with zero response, the irznuznizns are bluster.
